GW and I saw "The Dark Knight" this weekend at the local IMAX, which is part of a local furniture store. Afterwards, we wandered into their "Sleep Lab" to check out new mattresses. We've both not been sleeping that well, and have determined that our problems actually started several years ago, when we bought our first pillowtop. We'll have to go back to talk with the salespeople (too busy at the time, and we were starving after the lunchtime movie), but it seemed that nearly every mattress we looked at had a pillowtop. The ones that weren't were one form of memory foam or another.
Doesn't anyone make a conventional mattress anymore, without that soft crap on top? We sink into it, and either get too hot and start sweating or compress ourselves in it enough to hit a pressure point and numb an arm.
The other motive for wandering into the section was to replace BD's bed. GW wants a queen-size, to entice the HC to return often.
Do they even make non-pillowtop mattresses anymore?

I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

We recently bought a new mattress. We bought an extra-firm mattress and I had problems sleeping on it because it was too hard. (The mattress has the pillow top on it.)
I went to Linens N Things and bought a really plush feather mattress cover and it made a huge difference. I stopped having back problems and I could sleep more comfortably.
Around this time, one of Jeff's co-workers and I were talking about mattresses. He and his wife had just purchased a new mattress, but they got a soft mattress and he was having problems sleeping on it because it wasn't firm enough. There was nothing he could do to fix the problem of having too soft a mattress.
