Going to Vegas again in November

#1 Post by KillerTomato » Fri Sep 12, 2008 7:36 pm

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was headed to Vegas again in November, so here are the details, in case anyone cares:

I arrive Sunday night, Nov. 16, and leave Wed. morning, 11/19. I got a nice low airfare ($200 round trip!), and my hotel's comped (the Paris, for the record). So not a whole lot of time, but that just means less time to lose money (although I've won....and not an insignificant amount....the last two times I went, which is why they keep comping my room!).

Right now, I've got just one thing planned: Tuesday night Showdown with my old NTN team.

How do you go about having your room comped?

Every time you play anything, insert your player's club card or give it to the dealer. Even if you win, you get credit for at least attempting to lose your money to them, and they want you to come back and lose more.

My last trip cost me less than $100 dollars for three nights using room discounts, frequent-flyer miles, and using my comps to pay for my food. Plus they send you a check redeemable only at the casino cages that corresponds to how many points you earned last trip.

So, I'm el cheapo who plays penny or quarter video poker, nickel or quarter slots, and minimum-bet Let It Ride, and I got all the freebies too. I won $1800 on one hand of LIR, and pretty much try to recoup my slot losses with video poker wins (I usually do) and I spent most of that $100 on tips and monorail tickets that you usually don't get for free.

If Vegas were non-smoking, I'd go more often.

KT,

If you want to see a show, go to Broadwaybox.com for half price tickets. The tickets can be picked up at the show's box office. Don't stand in line at the half price ticket booths on the strip. They have very little discount offers and the deals are not great.

If you are going with kids Planet Hollywood had great magic shows in the shopping area.

I just got a nice offer for the nights of Nov. 14-16, so we may overlap.

Wow! Comped at Paris! I didn't know you were a "Whale"??? Maybe you should change your NN to "killer whale"? :) The breakfast buffet there is the best! Also the slots closest to the restaurants and the shops seem to be the loosist. Too bad the $250 k Game Show Challenge is no longer at the Hilton, but if you need a game show fix, The Price is Right is still around I think and it's also an afternoon show if you need a break from the gambling at Paris. No I'm not crashing your party, NYC a few weeks before your LV adventure. Baron's Annual Conference, the best Investment Conference every year. Of course after I booked the airfare, et. al. I get an invite to Legendary Investor's Jim Rogers Conference the following week also in NYC. An all day seminar wrapped up with a Cocktail Party on the floor of The New York Stock Exchange! That would have been a dream come true in many ways for me and lots of investment geeks, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Oh well enjoy Vegas, always my favorite trip! At least it's not nearly as crowded as it was a few years ago. Check out the new adult pool at the Rio, you'll fit right in with your Speedos!

I'm hardly a whale (although I play one on TV....but just that once on Jeopardy!....). I have been up some fairly good money the last couple of trips, including about 3 grand last time, so I do get some good comps.

The nice thing about the Harrah's group comp program is that whatever you earn at one is good everywhere. So if I play at Caesar's, or Bally's, or whatever, it carries over. Then I check their website, and see what offers they have for me. (They also send me lots of crap in the mail, mostly food offers, but also for stuff like a free camera if I go on a certain day).

Whether you get comped at a certain hotel is based mostly on how full the place is when you ask, and how nice the hotel is. Caesar's won't fully comp me; Imperial Palace would probably give me the penthouse IF I ever stayed there (which I won't), and Bally's, Rio and Paris are usually comped midweek (except around holidays) and much cheaper than rack rate on the weekends.

And the rooms they comp aren't the best...usually the lower floors, no strip view (although I got a high floor strip view when I was there for the 4th of July); again, those are still available for reduced rates, just (usually) not fully comped unless you're a whale.

I rarely see any shows (although I did see Spamalot there about a year ago). I've seen the Price is Right show, too....not great, but fun. Nearly impossible to win the car, but it's not exactly big budget.

You lucky dog. Be sure and down a few at Gustav's. That is easily my favorite video poker bar in LV. If you want a rec on a Paris host, I have a good relationship with one. Send me a message.

Have a great time.
