Well, no single party has a monopoly on being republican (note the small "r"), either. That strikes me as a flimsy justification for their real reason: "We don't like them, and we don't think they deserve the adjective "Democratic," so we'll call them whatever the hell we want."silvercamaro wrote:It was long before that. An RNC official told me in 1979 -- before John McCain retired from the Navy -- that "Democrat Party" was their preferred nomenclature because "no single political party has a monopoly on being democratic."'gotribego26 wrote:It isn't - Rush started it at least in 1994 - with the "Contract for America" ot "Contract on America" - whichever you prefer.

Ed, this is just a question to clarify, not to get in your face. I know there's a denomination called Church of Christ, but what, exactly, does that have to do with this thread? I admit, it's late and I'm sneezing like crazy.TheConfessor wrote:The same folks don't seem to have a problem with a subset of followers calling themselves "The Church of Christ."

According to silvercamaro (in this thread), some Republicans have a problem with one political party labeling itself "Democratic," even though many non-members also consider themselves democratic. I was drawing an analogy.Beebs52 wrote:Ed, this is just a question to clarify, not to get in your face. I see. I'm losing my ability to appreciate some analogies, I guess. There are many churches with the name of "Christ" or "Christian" or "Messiah" or whatever that I just didn't attach to the thread in the same way as "democratic" or "republican." Sorry. It's late.TheConfessor wrote:According to silvercamaro (in this thread), some Republicans have a problem with one political party labeling itself "Democratic," even though many non-members also consider themselves democratic. I think it was a bad analogy
BUT, that is just my humble opinion. Without an LOL or other abbreviation.

This Republican is annoyed both by his fellow Republicans referring to the "Democrat party" and by this "Republic party". Even if there might be a grammatical loophole to justify either, the sounds just grate on my ear.TheCalvinator24 wrote:Nope. I think it's amusing. Particularly the underlying assumption that we will be annoyed.TheConfessor wrote:So it's getting to you already, huh?TheCalvinator24 wrote:For those of you who think you will annoy us by calling us Republics, you couldn't be more wronger.
But go ahead, what this country really needs right now in this campaign is another petty way for the two sides to be snarky at each other.
Besides, after watching the premiere of this season's SyndieBAM, I'm in a really bad mood. So go ahead and play on that.
