My guess is that there will be ads initially and then bonuses for subscribers to the paper such as access to previous games and extra games they can play each day. There are still a lot of word app games that offer one new free game a day (I play some of them) with the option to buy more if you want.

I'm a bit surprised by "trace," because c is not that common a letter. I would think that under that rationale, "trade" would be better as a first guess.
