Timeline 2020 - Chron 9

Gonna fly now! - A "Who/what/when?" challenge

Below is a list of milestones in aviation history. For one point each, supply the who (person), and/or what (aircraft or other) and when (year) for each milestone. All correct years can be found in the Year Well (yes, there is a duplicate year). Players are responsible for all other answers.


A young pilot makes history when he makes a nonstop solo flight from New York to Paris.

Charles Lindbergh/Spirit of St. Louis/1927

An Air Force pilot becomes the first human to officially break the sound barrier.

Chuck Yeager/1947

A pair of siblings make the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft.

Might want to check that answer on the pilot question. Earhart flew transatlantic in 1932, sure, but not around the world, and obviously didn't take off and land in Columbus, OH.

I completely screwed up this question. The answer I wanted was Jerrie Mock in 1964, but that answer has not in the year well. I had an Amelia Earhart question originally (transatlantic in 1932), but I conflated the two and the result is a bad question.

I'll award everyone points for it. Damn, I was doing so well...
