Veteran actor Max von Sydow, known for 'The Seventh Seal' and 'The Exorcist,' dead at 90
Veteran actor Max von Sydow died Sunday at 90.

"It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max von Sydow (on) March 8, 2020," his wife Catherine stated to USA TODAY through Max's agent Jean Diamond.

The Swedish actor was best known for his role in 1957's "The Seventh Seal," 1973's "The Exorcist" and 1980's "Flash Gordon."

Sydow was nominated for two Academy Awards, one for his supporting role in 2011's "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" and for his leading role in 1987's "Pelle erobreren."

He was also nominated for two Golden Globes (one for his role in "The Exorcist") and two Emmy Awards, including one for his role as a guest actor on the popular HBO series "Game of Thrones" in 2016.

Sydow also worked on another famous franchise: Star Wars, playing Lor San Tekka in 2015's "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."

Arguably the greatest film actor in the world, averaging in both his brilliance and the number of great films in which he appeared.

And perhaps the only actor to have played both Jesus (The Greatest Story Ever Told) and the Devil (Needful Things).

Then there's George Burns who played both God and the devil.
