Don't forget to watch...

#1 Post by Lizbit » Sun Feb 02, 2020 12:11 am

The Puppy Bowl, best athletic event on television. It's today, and it gets repeated a few times on Animal Planet. Also on Animal Planet is a relatively newer event, the Dog Bowl. It's for older dogs who have been living and training in animal shelters and rescue facilities. One of the best players is 16. That's even older than me.

Also, Happy Groundhog Day. Wiki, my little sis, wants to organize a Groundhog Day Parade. She says if our mom would let her go out and scout out the neighborhood, she might be able to round up all the area groundhogs, plus any available sheep, chickens and squirrels to march around this end of town. If she does it, I promised her I would call the tv stations to try to get some news coverage. I think she wants to be on television. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Love this show! Everything about it is wonderful.

I especially love the waterbowl cam.

If it's Groundhog Day, it's Imbolc -- and SteelersFan's birthday! And this year, SuperBowl Sunday! SteelersFan would like San Francisco to win because he would win $15. I would like Kansas City to win because Mahomes is as cute as a puppy.

Dog Bowl was good too. I hope they are all adopted.

You and Wiki have great ideas, Lizbit. I don't know why your mom can't be a little more accommodating . . .

OK, enough fun here -- time to make the guacamole, my contribution to today's Super Bowl festivities. Plus Hint of Lime chips, of course.

Go Chiefs!

We very much enjoyed the Puppy Bowl, as we do every year. One of the puppies was local (and has since been adopted). The fans are fun, too - the goats and hamster and armadillos.

We also enjoyed the Dog Bowl. If we ever adopted a dog (and we are thinking about it after we do a lot of travelling next year), it would be a senior dog. Because we are seniors. Muggsy Spaniel next door watched some of it with us.

Everyone at my house was rooting for SF, except me. I picked KC, because Mahomes IS as cute as can be, and my oldest grandson looks just like him (including hairstyle!)

Love it that there are Mahomes, guac, and Hint of Lime fans out there!

It was way fun. As soon as we got behind, all the KC fans started yelling, "We've got em right where we want em!" And sure enough . . .

There was one disappointment for me. In the first quarter, a Corgi named Pip followed Cafecito into the end zone -- a sterling blocking effort, I thought. But he was never introduced as a starter, so I'm hoping it means that he was already adopted by the time Puppy Bowl was taped.

Wow! That watercam pup looks a lotlotlot like Wiki when she first came to live with us. (She still looks the same, but she's bigger now.)

I forgot to tell you about Wiki's Groundhog Day Parade. She did it, but it was not quite like she'd imagined it. First, she could not find a groundhog, nor a woodchuck, muskrat, meercat or wombat to fill in. She did find a raccoon who said he could pretend to be a groundhog, so the parade started. Halfway down the street, a pudgy little black pug puppy dug under the fence in his back yard to see what everybody was doing. Wiki noticed that he looked more like a groundhog than the raccoon, so she switched him into the "featured role." The raccoon didn't mind, because he kept wanting to look in all the trash cans on the parade route, anyway. She also rounded up a couple of yellow striped kittens who had escaped through their front door to find adventure, a wild duck who dipped down from his belated migration flight for a closer look, and three squirrels. I brought up the rear to try to keep everybody out of trouble in case the police came or to make bail if the animal shelter cop showed up. Fortunately, that was not necessary. They marched only to the end of the block, when the youngest participants started complaining that they were too tired to go much further without a nap. Wiki declared that the parade was over, and she escorted the babies (the pug and the kittens) back to their respective houses. She then lectured them about leaving their yards or front porches without permission from their moms. I was kind of proud of her for acting like a responsible adult about that.

The TV stations didn't seem to be terribly interested in providing coverage. They said they didn't have a spare camera crew with a reporter to send to our neighborhood, but I mostly think they just weren't interested. C'est la vie. So, Wiki didn't get to be on television, but she was happy that her doppelganger pup got the watercam closeup. I told her that if she wanted to try again, she could start now to plan for an Independence Day parade -- Fur and Feathers on the Fourth! She's thinking about it.

That may actually be the case - I was watching Property Bros a few weeks ago, and the family they were working with adopted a pup named Luca(?) - Drew announced he (Luca) would be appearing in the Puppy Bowl.
