#1 Post by Bob78164 » Thu Feb 28, 2019 11:18 am

Israel's Attorney General has secured an indictment of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery and fraud. --Bob

Some BBs may not know that in Israel, Attorney General is a separate position from Minister of Justice.

That's lucky, because the Minister of Justice is so right-wing that Bibi is a socialist compared to her. This is an actual campaign ad released today by the actual Justice Minister, not a comedian spoofing her.

Apperntly the ad went over your head

Bibi proposed a law to shield government leaders from prosecution. But first he had to form a coalition. He made concessions to the ultra-Orthodox parties, but some secular Knesset members wouldn’t accept them. The deadline, midnight Wednesday, has now passed.

There are other parties who would be willing to join Likud, but not with a corrupt criminal at the head. Likud still has the option of forming a government with a different leader. Otherwise there will be a new election Sept. 17.

By the way, previous Israeli presidents and prime ministers have been convicted of crimes ranging from having an unauthorized foreign bank account to rape. Some have gone to jail.

Sara Netanyahu is pleading guilty to ordering expensive takeout even though the PM’s residence has a cook. Not the crime of the century but at least she owned up to it.

A staffer was criticized in January for calling Sara the “first lady.” Not only does that title not exist in Israel, but it disses the president’s wife Nechama Rivlin, who’s as beloved as Sara is reviled. Nechama passed away last week after a long illness.

Apparently I don't understand the Israeli legal system particularly well. The Attorney General formally announced his intent to indict Netanyahu in February. The actual indictment -- for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust -- just happened. --Bob

And this is why I sometimes despair for the country.

Donny used the power of his office in an effort to extort Ukraine's government to bribe him by announcing an investigation against a domestic political opponent. Donny didn't even care if the investigation actually happened. He just wanted the announcement because that's what would damage Biden.

There is really no credible way to deny that happened. And you (along with most of what remains of the Republican Party) just don't care. And that means the Republican Party deserves to suffer the utter political destruction that has already been visited upon it in California. --Bob

Based on only the prosecution, bobby. Or is he guilty until proven innocent? Is that what they taught you at Acme? I hope he is impeached. It would be nice to have a trial run by adults according to due process.

How does it accord with due process when Donny is privately meeting with many of the jurors? Any senator who cares about appearing (much less being) impartial should refuse to meet privately with Donny.

And Republicans have had plenty of opportunity to question the eyewitnesses to Donny's extortionate attempts to get the government of Ukraine to bribe him. They haven't dented the accounts because they're true. That's exactly what Donny was doing, and if it weren't for the whistleblower complaint going public, it would have worked.

And that, of course, is exactly why Republicans are mad at the whistleblower. Because he stopped Donny from getting away with it. --Bob

Once again, the parties are deadlocked, so there will be a third election in March. They disagree on many issues, but my impression is that Bibi's insistence on immunity is the sticking point.
