Game #196: Massive Musical Medley

Identify the 150 songs below. (Yes, that’s a lot of songs.) Then, match them into 50 groups of four according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Fifty songs will be used twice, each time in a different capacity. (There are only two capacities in which a song can be used.)

Alternate groupings may possible, but only one solution will allow you to complete the puzzle I hope.

Note that, for the purpose of this game, featured artists need not be taken into account.

1. Each time we meet, love,
I find complete love.
Without your sweet love
what would life be?

2. There is no pain, you are receding,
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon,
You are only coming through in waves,
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.

3. Remember those walls I built?
Well, baby, they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight,
They didn't even make a sound.

4. When I move, you move (just like that)
When I move, you move (just like that)
When I move, you move (just like that)
Hell yeah! Hey DJ bring that back!

5. Remember when we used to park
On Butler Street out in the dark?
Remember when we lost the keys
And you lost more than that in my backseat?

6. Once more, I feel your kisses,
Once more, I know what bliss is.

7. Now your Daddy don't mind,
And your Mommy don't mind,
If we have another dance, yeah,
Just one more, one more time.

8. He'll be kind of shy
And real good lookin', too,
And I'll be certain he's my guy
By the things he'll like to do.

9. I know your insides are feeling so hollow
And it's a hard pill for you to swallow, yeah,
But if I fall for you, I'll never recover,
If I fall for you, I'll never be the same.

10. In time, the Rockies may tumble,
Gibraltar may crumble.
They’re only made of clay.

11. I ain't gonna do you wrong
While you're gone,
Ain't gonna do you wrong
'Cause I don't wanna.

12. I can't believe that this is the girl next door,
Her funny little face isn't funny no more.

13. Lovers appear in your room each night
And they whirl you across the floor,
But they always seem to fade away
When your daddy taps on your door.

14. If I'm seen with someone new,
Don't be blue, don't be blue.
I'll be faithful I'll be true;
Always true, true to you.

15. The time to hesitate is through,
No time to wallow in the mire.
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre.

16. I hope the ring you gave to her turns her finger green,
I hope when you're in bed with her, you think of me.

17. Got a picture of your house and you're standing by the door,
It's black and white and faded and it's looking pretty worn.
I see the factory that I worked silhouetted in the back.
The memories are gray but, man, they're really coming back.

18. I've got everything
You could think of,
But all I want
Is someone to love.

19. Stuck at a red light outside an adult bookstore,
His son said, “Daddy what are all those X's for?”
As the light turned green he changed the subject fast,
Started talking about football as they drove right past.

20. Girl your stare, those eyes (I love it when you look at me, baby.)
Your lips, your smile (I love it when you kiss me, baby.)
Your hips, those thighs (I love it when you f**k me, baby.)
And I can't deny (I love it when I'm wit'chu, baby.)

21. You got to not talk dirty, baby,
If you wanna impress me.
You can't be too flirty, mama,
I know how to undress me.

22. Words mean so little when you look up and smile.
I don't care what people say, to me you're more than a child.

23. There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just to save his own.
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner.
There's no hiding place against the Kingdom's throne.

24. I've got this feeling
That time's just holding me down.
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town.

25. Outside another yellow moon
Has punched a hole in the night time mist.
I climb through the window and down to the street,
I'm shining like a new dime.

26. Then somebody grabbed me, threw me outta my chair,
Said before you can eat, you gotta dance like Fred Astaire.

27. Consider this,
Consider this, the hint of the century,
Consider this, the slip
That brought me to my knees.

28. Well what you gonna do, when one and one makes three
And a vision of the future is impossible to see?
Nobody's perfect, not even a perfect fool.
If you'll have faith in me,
I'll keep faith with you.

29. Here is my heart!
Take it and say, that we'll never part!
I'm just a slave, only a slave, to you!

30. Don't you tell me
My baby's just a playboy.
(It wasn't him.)
Don't you tell me
My baby's just a playboy.

31. Beautiful, beautiful girl from the north,
You burned my heart with a flickering torch.
I had a dream that no one else could see,
You gave me love for free.

32. I'm a shooting star, leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity,
I'm a racing car, passing by like Lady Godiva,
I'm gonna go, go, go,
There's no stopping me!

33. When I look into your eyes
It's like watching the night sky
Or a beautiful sunrise,
So much they hold
And just like them old stars,
I see that you've come so far
To be right where you are.
How old is your soul?

34. I can see it in your eyes,
I can see it in your smile,
You're all I've ever wanted, and my arms are open wide.

35. All of her days have gone soft and cloudy,
All of her dreams have gone dry,
All of her nights have gone sad and shady,
She's getting ready to fly.

36. You're so good.
When we make love it's understood
It's more than a touch or a word can say,
Only in dreams could it be this way.

37. Don't think of yesterday
And I don't look at the clock,
I like to boogie-woogie, uh, uh.
It's like riding on the wind
And it never goes away,
Touches everything I'm in,
Got to have it every day.

38. I’ve got a fever rising with desire,
It’s my love jones and I feel like I’m on fire.

39. I really don't feel like smiling anymore
And I haven't had the peace to sleep at all.
Ever since you went away, baby my whole life has changed,
I don't want to love and I don't want to live.

40. I took quarter water sold it in bottles for two bucks.
Coca-Cola came and bought it for billions, what the f**k?
Have a baby by me, baby, be a millionaire,
I write the check before the baby comes, who the f**k cares?

41. You know you love me, I know you care,
Just shout whenever and I'll be there,
You are my love, you are my heart
And we will never, ever, ever be apart.

42. You and me we made a vow
For better or for worse.
I can't believe you let me down
But the proof is in the way it hurts.

43. Worry,
Why do I let myself worry?
Wondering
What in the world did I do?

44. And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming,
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies.
Yeah. you bleed just to know you're alive.

45. I could never see
What fate had meant for me
And then you came
And made my dreams match reality.

46. Keep me in your heart,
Never let us part
Ooh, never leave me, please don't deceive me,
I want you only, you must believe me.

47. Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter.
Togetherness, girl, is all I'm after.

48. In the daytime,
In the nighttime,
Any time that you feel's the right time
For a friendship with me, you see.

49. I want to hold you, so hear me out,
I want to show you what love's all about.

50. Frustrated, incorporated,
Well I know just what you need,
I might just have the thing,
I know what you'd pay to see.

51. When I kiss you
I feel a thousand different feelings,
A cover of chills
All over my body.

52. I was alright for a while,
I could smile for a while.

53. Step on a crack!
Break your momma's back!

54. How in the world you gonna see,
Laughin' at fools like me?
Who in the hell d'you think you are,
A superstar?
Well, right you are.

55. It's you, and me
Movin' at the speed of light into eternity, yeah.
Tonight is the night
To join me in the middle of ecstasy,
Feel the melody and the rhythm of the music around you, around you.

56. I've cried and prayed to the Lord
To send you back my love,
But instead you came to me
Only in my dreams.

57. I've got so much honey the bees envy me,
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees.

58. When I was younger, man, I hadn't a care,
Foolin' around, hitting the town, growing my hair.
You came along and stole my heart when you entered my life.
Ooh, babe, you got what it takes so I made you my wife.

59. It's been a long time since the book of love.
I can't count the tears of a life with no love.
Carry me back, carry me back,
Carry me back, baby, where I come from.

60. I was a carhop,
You were into be-bop,
You sang do wop diddy wop diddy wop doo,
All of them changes you put me through.

61. Baby, can't you see I'm calling?
A guy like you should wear a warning.
It's dangerous,
I'm falling.

62. It surrounds me, ooh, like a sea of madness.
It controls me, makes me do all the things I do for you.
On my mind, babe, thinkin' about you now
And I don't know if I'll make it through the night.

63. If I let you come inside, tomorrow will you hide?
Will you be there for me, when I need someone to hold me?
Baby, don't misunderstand, I do want you for my man,
I just need a little time before I invest my love.

64. Oh, baby, love me right,
Let me love you till I get it right.
Can't you let the others be?
'Cause with you is where I got to be.

65. I used to think that I wasn't fine enough
And I used to think that I wasn't wild enough,
But I won't waste my time tryin' to figure out why you playin' games.

66. Tell me you'll stay,
Never ever go away,
I need you (I need you)
I guess I always will.
Girl, you're my best friend,
Girl, you're my love within,
I just want you to know
That I will always love you.
Ooh, baby.

67. It took a rumor to make me wonder,
Now I'm convinced I'm going under.

68. Do you remember there was a time, ahaha,
When people on the street
Were walking hand in hand in hand?
They used to talk about the weather,
Making plans together,
Days would last forever.

69. Woman, I can remember a woman,
Warm were her kisses and tender was she
Lying there in my arms.
Why, why did you deceive me so?
What devil inside made you go
When I needed you most of all?

70. Every awareness
Seems to bring us together, storm in the weather.
Being enlightened is like
Choosing the road in which you wish to go,
Planting a seedling and watching it grow.

71. f I had my way, I'd shuffle off to Buffalo,
Sit by the lake, and watch the world go by.
Ladies in the sun, listenin' to the radio
Like flowers on the sand, the rainbow in my mind.

72. Oh, it's been such a long, long time,
Looks like I'd get you off my mind,
But I can't.

73. I'm wanna get up in the mornin'
A-yeah, with the risin' sun.
I'm gonna stay right on that trail
Till the day is done.
I think I am old enough.
I'm young in years, but I'm mighty tough.

74. I've thought of every word I'd say,
Give or take a few,
But she turns and slowly walks away.
What do I have to do?

75. Like a king without a castle,
Like a queen without a throne,
I'm an early morning lover
And I must be moving on.

76. Well, there's nothin' that you ain't tried
To fill the emptiness inside.
When you come back down, girl,
Still ain't feelin' right.

77. Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again.
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again.

78. Baby, baby, I'll meet you
Same place, same time,
Where we can get together
And ease up our mind.

79. When you touch me I can't resist
And you've touched me a thousand times.
When I think of your tender kiss, ah,
Then and there I start to unwind.

80. Darkness on the edge,
Shadows where I stand,
I search for the time
On a watch with no hands.

81. You can take these words to bed with you
And hold on to them at night.
They can erase the emptiness
And make everything alright.

82. Some people live for the fortune,
Some people live just for the fame,
Some people live for the power, yeah,
Some people live just to play the game.

83. Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain.

84. Something happened to my heart the day that I met you,
Something that I never felt before.
You are always on my mind, no matter what I do
And every day it seems I want you more.

85. I've got the blues
And up above it's so fair.
Shoes,
Come on and carry me there.

86. A man in my shoes runs a light
And all the papers lied tonight,
But falling over you
Is the news of the day.

87. I don't care if everybody's gone.
Turn it up 'cause it turns me on.
Keep dancing all night long,
Feels so right that it can't be wrong.

88. Taking a day at a time,
Dealing with feelings I don't want to hide,
Learning to love as I go, baby,
Without taking you along for a ride.

89. My dear Lady Anne,
I've done what I can.
I must take my leave
For promised I am.

90. As you leave me, please, would you close the door?
And don't forget what I told you.
Just 'cause you're right, that don't mean I'm wrong.
Another shoulder to cry upon.

91. Every thought is a dream
Rushing by in a stream
Bringing life to the kingdom of doing.

92. When the night falls down
I wait for you and you come around
And the world's alive
With the sound of kids on the street outside.

93. Your feet start tapping, and you can't seem to find
How you got there, so just blow your mind.

94. Climb into my machine so we can cruise on out.
I know a swingin' little joint where we can jump and shout.
It's not too far back off the highway, not so long a ride,
You park your car out in the open, you can walk inside.

95. Where do we go from here now that all other children are growin' up?
And how do we spend our lives if there's no one to lend us a hand?

96. The drunken politician leaps
Upon the street where mothers weep
And the saviors who are fast asleep.

97. Hey, some people are made of plastic
And you know some people are made of wood,
Some people have hearts of stone
Some people (some people) are up to no good.

98. And it all comes down to you,
Well, you know that it does.
Well, lightning strikes
Maybe once, maybe twice.

99. Sitting with the thinker
Just trying to work it out,
It's a traffic jam of the brain,
Makes you want to scream and shout.

100. Sometimes we stand on the top of a hill
And we gaze at the earth and the sky.
I turn to you and you melt in my arms.
There we are, darling, only you and I.

101. And I'll be yours until two and two is three,
Yours until the mountain crumbles to the sea,
In other words, until eternity.

102. We used to laugh,
We used to cry,
We used to bow our heads
Then wonder why.

103. Here, have a dollar,
In fact, no, brother man, here, have two.
Two dollars means a snack for me,
But it means a big deal to you.

104. I'll face the unknown,
I'll build a world of my own.

105. You, with your words like knives
And swords and weapons that you use against me,
You have knocked me off my feet again,
Got me feeling like a nothing.

106. I couldn't sleep at all tonight,
And I know it's late,
But I couldn't wait.

107. But his honor is pure and his courage as well,
And he's fair and he's true and he's boring as hell.

108. What's it like in New York city?
I'm a thousand miles away
But, girl, tonight you look so pretty,
Yes, you do.

109. I took my bruises, took my lumps,
Fell down and I got right back up,
But I need that spark to get psyched back up
In order for me to pick that mic back up.

110. I don't know what it is that you've done to me
But it's caused me to act in such a crazy way.
Whatever it is that you do when you do what you're doing,
It's a feeling that I don't understand.

111. Now if I appear to be carefree
It's only to camouflage my sadness
And, honey, to shield my pride I try
To cover this hurt with a show of gladness.

112. Smile an everlasting smile,
A smile can bring you near to me.
Don't ever let me find you gone
'Cause that would bring a tear to me.

113. Gonna rock it up
Roll it up
Do it all,
Have a ball.

114. I can feel the magic floating in the air.
Being with you gets me that way.
I watch the sunlight dance across your face
And I've never been this swept away.

115. It's a-getting closer,
Going faster than a rollercoaster,
Love like yours will surely come my way.

116. She just wants to be beautiful
She goes unnoticed, she knows no limits
She craves attention, she praises an image
She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor

117. Diamond life,
Lover boy,
He moves in space with minimum waste
And maximum joy.

118. I never had no one that I could count on,
I've been let down so many times,
I was tired of hurtin', so tired of searchin'
Til you walked into my life.
It was a feelin' I'd never known
And for the first time I didn't feel alone.

119. I had some problems and no one could seem to solve them,
But you found the answer.
You told me to take this chance and learn the ways of love,
My baby, and all that it has to offer.
In time you will see that love won't let you down.

120. And when the morning of the warning's passed,
The gassed and flaccid kids are flung across the stars,
The psychodramas and the traumas gone
The songs are left unsung and hung upon the scars.

121. I'm a walkin' in the rain,
Tears are fallin' and I feel a pain,
A-wishin' you were here by me
To end this misery.

122. 24-7,
I will make you feel like heaven,
I'll turn you upside down,
I'll spin you round and round.

123. To every word of love I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play a sweet refrain.

124. No one can tell me
That I'm too young to know
I love you so (love you so)
And you love me.

125. Catch a fallin' star that shines,
Make a wish, clap three times,
Dreams come true it's in the mind.

126. I've seen the way men look at you
When they think I don't see
And it hurts to have them think that you're that kind,
But it's knowing that you're looking back
That's really killing me.

127. I said the first day I met you,
Someday I'm gonna catch you.
Now you're here and baby I love it,
So come on and give me some lovin’.

128. All the things that she used to bring,
All the songs she used to sing,
All the favorite TV shows
Have gone out the window.

129. We'll take it nice and easy
And use my simple plan:
You'll be my lovin' woman,
I'll be your lovin' man.
We'll take the most from living,
Have pleasure while we can.

130. Well, you can rock it, you can roll it,
You can stop and you can stroll it.

131. Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew,
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.

132. Seven a.m., waking up in the morning,
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs,
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal,
Seein' everything, the time is goin'.

133. Where did my innocence go?
How, how was a young girl to know?
I'm trapped, trapped in the spell of your eyes,
In the warmth of your arms,
In the web of your lies.

134. I can pretend each time I see you
That I don't care and I don't need you
And though you'll never see me cryin'
You know inside I feel like dying.

135. Boys, you can break,
You'll find out how much they can take.
Boys will be strong
And boys soldier on,
But boys would be gone without warmth from
A woman's good, good heart.

136. Well, I was born in the sign of water
And it's there that I feel my best.
The albatross and the whales
They are my brothers.

137. Got your lady on the line,
Got your name on the cover,
Though your friends are ninety-nine
Honey, you ain't got no lover.

138. With a thrill in my head and a pill on my tongue,
Dissolve the nerves that have just begun.

139. Mugwumps, high jumps, low slumps, big bumps,
Don't you work as hard as you play?
Make up, break up, everything is shake up,
Guess it had to be that way.

140. Gonna stimulate some action,
We gonna get some satisfaction,
We gonna find out what it is all about.

141. Today, the world was just an address,
A place for me to live in,
No better than all right.

142. But our house gets cold when you cut the heating,
Without you to hold I'll be freezing.
Can't rely on my heart to beat it
'Cause you take part of it every evening.

143. I used to love to make you cry,
It made me feel like a man inside.
But if I'd been a man in reality
You'd still be here, baby, lovin' me.

144. Seven years went under the bridge
Like time was standing still.
Heaven knows what happens now.
You've got to, you've gotta say you will.

145. So I walked on down away from you.
Maybe your attention was more than you could do.
One man did not call,
He asked me for my love and that was all.

146. Back at the hotel
Lord, we got such a mess.
It seems that one of the crew
Had a go with one of the guests.

147. Seems so long I've been waiting,
Still don't know what for.
There's no point escaping,
I don't worry anymore.

148. Trouble ahead, lady in red,
Take my advice, you'd be better off dead.
Switchman's sleeping, train hundred and two is
On the wrong track and headed for you.

149. If you want my future, forget my past.
If you wanna get with me, better make it fast.
Now don't go wasting my precious time,
Get your act together, we could be just fine.

150. I love you,
'Cause you tell me things I want to know
And it's true
That it really only goes to show
That I know
That I, I, I, I
Should never, never, never be blue.

First Pass

Let it be Me (J’Appartiens) -- Elvis Presley is the only version I know the artist by name. I can’t swear that’s the right French, I’m dredging it up from a piece of sheet music I had many moons ago

2. There is no pain, you are receding,
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon,
You are only coming through in waves,
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.

Comfortably Numb – Pink Floyd

7. Now your Daddy don't mind,
And your Mommy don't mind,
If we have another dance, yeah,
Just one more, one more time.

Stay -- Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs

11. I ain't gonna do you wrong
While you're gone,
Ain't gonna do you wrong
'Cause I don't wanna.

Respect - Aretha Franklin

13. Lovers appear in your room each night
And they whirl you across the floor,
But they always seem to fade away
When your daddy taps on your door.

Angie Baby -- Helen Reddy

14. If I'm seen with someone new,
Don't be blue, don't be blue.
I'll be faithful I'll be true;
Always true, true to you.

Love Me Tender -- Elvis Presley

15. The time to hesitate is through,
No time to wallow in the mire.
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre.

Light My Fire -- The Doors

21. You got to not talk dirty, baby,
If you wanna impress me.
You can't be too flirty, mama,
I know how to undress me.

Kiss -- Prince

25. Outside another yellow moon
Has punched a hole in the night time mist.
I climb through the window and down to the street,
I'm shining like a new dime.

Downtown Train -- Rod Stewart

26. Then somebody grabbed me, threw me outta my chair,
Said before you can eat, you gotta dance like Fred Astaire.

Long Tall Glasses -- Leo Sayer

33. When I look into your eyes
It's like watching the night sky
Or a beautiful sunrise,
So much they hold
And just like them old stars,
I see that you've come so far
To be right where you are.
How old is your soul?

I Won’t Give Up On Us -- Jason Mraz

Identify the 150 songs below. (Yes, that’s a lot of songs.) Then, match them into 50 groups of four according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Fifty songs will be used twice, each time in a different capacity. (There are only two capacities in which a song can be used.)

Alternate groupings may possible, but only one solution will allow you to complete the puzzle I hope.

Note that, for the purpose of this game, featured artists need not be taken into account.

5. Remember when we used to park
On Butler Street out in the dark?
Remember when we lost the keys
And you lost more than that in my backseat?
Never Say Goodbye - Bon Jovi

If you wanna impress me.
You can't be too flirty, mama,
I know how to undress me.
Kiss - Tom Jones and the Art of Noise (If the featured artists don't matter, then I'm not mentioning Symbol Boy, because I hate his version)

24. I've got this feeling
That time's just holding me down.
I'll hit the ceiling

You came along and stole my heart when you entered my life.
Ooh, babe, you got what it takes so I made you my wife.
This is one of those sappy, mellow, late 70's songs I tend to love. The chorus is something like "Oooooh, I Got You." Can't even think of who does it...

Shadows where I stand,
I search for the time
On a watch with no hands.
Definitely 80's Heart... I think it's "Alone"

95. Where do we go from here now that all other children are growin' up?
And how do we spend our lives if there's no one to lend us a hand?
Games People Play - Alan Parsons Project (I remember I almost always used this song in the early years of the LSWE completely by accident)

98. And it all comes down to you,
Well, you know that it does.
Well, lightning strikes
Maybe once, maybe twice.
Gypsy - Fleetwood Mac

99. Sitting with the thinker
Just trying to work it out,

Makes you want to scream and shout.
Let's Go All The Way - Sly Fox

107. But his honor is pure and his courage as well,
And he's fair and he's true and he's boring as hell.

To cover this hurt with a show of gladness.

Aside from the one that littlebeast already corrected, here's a rundown. I'm only bothering with things that will matter in the final solution.

You missed a couple that Melly already identified.

#63 and #113 are wrong. (I'm identifying these because there are so many and I don't want you to have to go back and reinstitute all the lyrics.)

One has the right artist but the wrong song.

One is the right song but needs a different artist who famously recorded it.

One is correct, but the song was released by a group, not by the individual cited.

One is totally correct but the form of the title needs a slight adjustment. (Someone else had it right.)

We're off to a good start.

Tangredi: A one-word title can be combined with part of another title to make the title of a song by one of the artists on the list.

85. STAIRWAY TO Paradise + 17. HEAVEN = 59. Led Zeppelin

112. WORDS + 68. Chains OF LOVE = 139. The Mamas and the Papas

136 COOL Change + 6. NIGHT = 60. Paul Davis

Partial: ?? Walkin' + 140. AFTER MIDNIGHT = 43. Patsy Cline

The one word part may be too restrictive, I dunno, but we'll see.

Only problem is the Tangredi calls for groups of four. but I think you're onto something here (especially that Stairway To Heaven match)...

115. is correctly spelled EVERYDAY, which is I bet what Frank was referring to in the slight change comment. That makes it a one word title -- more evidence for the more restrictive version of the Tangredi.

Maybe add him to the match and you have your Tangredi?

OK, I'm not sure same-titled songs is the key here. The Cure's "Friday I'm In Love" song can be made as a match in this game, so the old title + title = artist formula seems like it has to be part of the foursome. Just gotta find the missing piece...
