2015 Boney Awards...The Songs

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Sat Mar 05, 2016 11:18 am

Part Two of this year's Boney Awards concerns the 80 songs of 2015 that
I enjoyed the most. Again, not necessarily the most creative or artistic,
just the ones that most pleased my ears. And awaaaaay we go!

80. NEW JERUSALEM (FREEDOM IS COMING)-NEAL MORSE

The former leader of Spock's Beard, a band carrying the modern day torch of progressive
rock, returns with another solo album. He left the band shortly after becoming a born
again Christian, stating he didn't want to force his new found beliefs on the rest of
the band or expect them to make music based on his agenda. Likewise, this song gets
his point across without bludgeoning you over the head with it. He has made other records
where his messsage is presented with a lot less subtlety, but here the lyrics are more of
a gentle nudge. And the music is great, especially if you're a fan of bands like Kansas,
Yes, or Genesis.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p2-gfDGbTI

79. BORN TO SING-VAN MORRISON w/CHRIS FARLOWE

From an album of duets that revisit some of his lesser known catalog, Van the Man teams
up here with British hitmaker of the 60's Farlowe for this tasty R & B treat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snQOD_UgqX4

78. BONE-KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD

Yeah, I know..nice band name. This band from Australia actually sounds like it came
straight off the stage at Woodstock...the musical equivalent of a tie-dyed shirt. Trippy and
hippie, and goofy enough to win over my ears against my better judgemment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntpt0fq3Jn8

77. COME RAIN, COME SHINE-IVAN AND ALYOSHA

What a pretty song. If this was better known, it would be "our song" for a lot of couples.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrAtyDdgBT0

76. UMA THURMAN-FALL OUT BOY

Break out the go-go dancers for this one. Seriously..do the frug, the swim, etc.
And how can you resist a song that samples the theme from "The Munsters"?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VTxYQL2SbA

75. BLACK AND WHITE-MICHAEL GRIMM

"America's Got Talent" Season 5 winner Grimm scores with this smoky power
ballad. I just like this guy's voice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc1DcFLUPmA

74. IT SHOOK ME UP-JD McPHERSON

Not too many artists these days channeling Little Richard, but this one
sounds like an old Specialty Records 45..Alan Freed would've loved this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0hyEu5emzY

73. BREAKFAST AT THE FIGARO-BEN WILKINS

Sophisticated pop with more than a hint of Ben Folds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncTocRl4EGM

72. CHASING THE PAST-THE ZOMBIES

Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent reformed The Zombies a few years back, and have been steadily releasing
music that sounds nothing like an oldies act trying to score a few bucks for nostalgic
baby boomers. It's been consistently good output...this one fuses classical and jazz
elements with a sophisticated melody.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKOQzZ4UZpw

71. SAINT CECELIA-FOO FIGHTERS

From an ep released late in the year, this one rawwwks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAVVfAB3-o8

70. THE WRONG YEAR-THE DECEMBERISTS

Chiming guitars and an accordian guide a gentle melody through its course.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98XFrVREkm8

69. EVERYTHING'S FINE-THE RAVINES

From one of the most enjoyable albums of the year, this is a power pop
delight full of big beats, ringing guitars and three-part harmony.
The wheel is not reinvented here, but it doesn't need to be in this case.
Note:the video here starts off with a little skit..the song itself doesn't
start until about 1:14 if you want to skip ahead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71sDcLRbOus

68. PENNARIO-GILL LANDRY

Spanish guitars, a sad violin, mariachi horns..this sounds like a song that
might run over the credits of a Clint Eastwood western.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6zwQrM9mKk

67. YOU'D SEE THE THINGS THAT I SEE-STEVE FORBERT

Forbert, who achieved one-hit wonder status with "Romeo's Tune" in 1980,
is still putting out music 35 years later. His voice, never that great to begin with,
has even less shine to it now...but how could I resist this one, sung from John
Lennon's point of view on the day he met Paul McCartney. Forbert imagines (pun slightly
intended) how Lennon might've felt on that July 6th, 1957 day. Wonderful idea for a song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u43vFj4GQvQ

66. HOLD ON (THE BREAK)=WALK OFF THE EARTH

A bouncy, upbeat we-can-take-on-the-world-together anthem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfW7y_Qk0VY

65. FALLING OUT OF LOVE AGAIN-TIMMY SEAN

Sean in 2015 was pretty prolific, posting a new song every week on the Bandcamp website.
This is a ballad with a lot of John Lennon in its DNA, backed with Beach Boy-ish harmonies.

https://timmysean.bandcamp.com/track/so ... love-again

64. 10,000 EMERALD POOLS-BORNS

Technically, there's a diagonal slash through the O in BORNS, but....
anyway, this is a low-key modern pop entry that glides along quite nicely.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4GrDOOIIbk

63. HOLD ON FOREVER-ROB THOMAS

The Matchbox Twenty singer goes solo again with this gently upbeat ditty. Just one
of those pleasant, harmless pop tunes. Nothing wrong with that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCLN6JuXfpE

62. ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME-COLDPLAY

Their last album was kind of a downer. This one is much brighter in tone. The first single
from it serves as Exhibit A. The video is a little weird, but the song itself cooks along
to a nice little groove.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtXby3twMmI

61. HURT THIS WAY-LIFEHOUSE

Pretty and powerful acoustic number that addresses domestic violence. The banjo adds a nice flavor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymCOY6UkZao

That takes care of our first 20. 60-41 are coming right up...

60. FLORIDA GIRL-JOHN McMULLAN

You can hear elements of The Beach Boys, Beatles, Association, Left Banke..
and one-hit wonders like the Neon Philharmonic...really anyone in the 60's
who added orchestral arrangements to usually sprightly melodies..in this song.
The overall tone is happy, yet the strings are off-center enough to add a bit
of melancholy to the mix.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGRr6XZrzTA

59. DIRTY TO THE BONE-JEFF LYNNE'S ELO

No doubt who you're listening to here. Lynne doesn't screw with the formula.
And that's a good thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzDbFt33wKw

58. TALK ABOUT YOU-MIKA

A happy and flamboyant pop delight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH30OyVXuK0

57. PLEASE-SAWYER FREDERICKS

I gotta give it up for the local boy. Winner of this past spring's "The Voice",
this teenager lives just a couple of miles across the bridge from where we
live. His world weary voice sounds about 30 years beyond his age. This, his
first single, was given to him by an obvious influence, Ray LaMontagne

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQe-uA4v3T4

56. THIS-COLLECTIVE SOUL

One of my favorite bands of more current vintage, although "current" may
not be entirely accurate anymore as their first album came out in 1993. Whatever.
They can still rock and I still like 'em.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6KMzCRcAVw

55. MERCY-MUSE

Bombastic, almost operatic rock...sublety is not usually in their vocabulary.
But what they do, they do well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj8Xpdx60Ws

54. OTHERWHILE-THE SMALL SQUARE

Led by vets of the bands Velvet Crush and Gin Blossoms, this is a terrific blast
of power pop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUAfylOy4VY

53. PUMP IT UP-JON CLEARY

From power pop to N'Awlins gumbo. You can't say I don't cover a fairly
wide array of styles here. This is actually a mashup mix of R&B, Ska, and
Basin Street flavors...from a guy born in England, although he's been
based in N. O. for decades now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A8cHymQZhE

52. LUCKY IN EVERY WAY-PUGWASH

Led by Thomas Walsh, this Irish band really should get in the ears of more
people who just enjoy well-crafted melodies...their obscurity is a shame.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc_KUy6hjQw

51. HEAVY AS A FEATHER-DAVEIT FERRIS

At #65 we had Timmy Sean, who I told you had issued a song per week for the
whole year. Well, Irishman Ferris (2 in a row from the Emerald Isle!) went a step
further...a song a DAY! Well, apparently, the project stalled after July, but that
still resulted in a lot more tunes than Sean. For such a prolific output, the
quality was surprisingly good. Love this quiet, pretty number from April

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mvs521NEodY

50. PHONE IN A POOL-BEN FOLDS

A typical amiable Folds melody with his piano backed by the pizzicato strings of the
yMusic ensemble..they call it chamber pop if you want to categorize it. I myself find
Ben hard to pigeonhole. I just categorize him as great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNIFzM00pNc

49. NEVER KNOW YOU-MICHAEL CARPENTER

If your ears could be described as having something akin to a sweet tooth, this hook-filled power
popper is the equivalent of a musical Snickers bar..it really satisfies.

https://michaelcarpenter.bandcamp.com/t ... r-know-you

48. HEARTBREAK-THE MAUREENS

We go for the Power Pop two-fer...this one has such a sweet melody...and
I've always been a sucker for a leap into falsetto backed by 3 part harmonies
and jangly guitars.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06yk6Z9xI9s

47. HAN SOLO-BOB SCHNEIDER

Musically, anyway, I hear some mellow Tom Petty and even a little Eagles.
The vocal is much more low key. Lyrically, how can you not like a line like
"I'm your Chewbacca, you're my Han Solo"?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KV8RuNH9P64

46. SOOTHE-TODD RUNDGREN

Classic Rundgren ballad. So pretty. Wouldn't be out of place in his early 70's
output.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJofCu1TjG4

45. HALLELUJAH-PANIC! AT THE DISCO

Sampling Chicago's "Questions 67 and 68", PatD raise their hands and testify. Or
should I say raises HIS hands, as there is essentially only one official band
member left..other musicians only serve in the touring band.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxYyHHR0Q1c

44. LIGHT IN THE HALLWAY-PENTATONIX

From the group that made acapella cool. This is utterly beautiful/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlppyBJhLnc

43. RECORDS AND NEEDLES-RYAN HAMILTON

This, both musically and lyrically, is for all of us baby boomers who grew
up watching those platters that matter spin round and round.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhlTkgk4pSo

42. DID YOU JUST TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME?-COLIN HAY

The former head honcho of Men At Work still makes music, and much of it is still good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB7DhNhWBbo

41. X MARKS THE SPOT-COLDPLAY

Melodic, mellow grooved entry from the band most either love or hate. I can't exactly call it
love, but I sure like a decent amount of their tunes. Most of the posts on Youtube have the
audio muted...apparently the band or their management had a problem with it being there. This
slipped through the cracks at this point...the song repeats over and over for an hour..the
song itself is 3 minutes long or so, so don't feel obligated to play it 20 times.

40. THE STATE OF GOLD PT. 1-MATT POND PA

Atmoshpheric midtempo indiepop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xslEMz-aFM

39.DON'T OPEN THAT DOOR-MICHAEL CARPENTER

One of Australia's best kept secrets. Power Pop perfection.
Hits all my sweet spots...60's style melody, layered background vocals,
crunchy guitars and bash-n-crash guitars.

https://michaelcarpenter.bandcamp.com/t ... -that-door

38. STRETCH OF THE HIGHWAY-JAMES TAYLOR

A cool summer breeze and the windows rolled down...just drivin'
along with good ol' JT.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Csj5aKKji0

37. HOLDING ALL THE ROSES-BLACKBERRY SMOKE

Holds its own with some of the great Southern Rock sings. This hard charging
rocker reminds me most of EARLY .38 Special.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvtdLeatj20

36. ALL YOUR FAVORITE BANDS-DAWES

I just love the words and sentiments of this song. The singer, in writing to
a long ago best bud, expresses the things he hopes for him (her"?)
ending with "May all your favorite bands stay together".
Amen to that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I74C2hClAsA

35. GHOST TOWN-ZUGZWANG NEUTRAL

Don't know anything about this band, but out of a 6-song EP I downloaded this summer, 2 of
them made my Top 40, so I'm hoping I'll be hearing more of them. Read a review of the
music on a music blog I frequent, and obviously liked what I heard. This is a cross between light
power pop funneled through an early 70's California filter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYSIhr6 ... juQTXiu5x6

34. ME AND THE DEVIL-THE FRATELLIS

No stranger to my year-end list, these guys return with this rolling piano/modern day saloon offering.
This band is eclectic enough that things are not likely to get boring.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yQ_grujECk

33. GET READY FOR IT-TAKE THAT

One hit wonders here in the US, they hit much bigger in the UK. This one is played over the credits in the movie
"Kingsmen The Secret Service."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f59ZtVeTr0

32. BROKEN HEART TATTOOS-RYAN BINGHAM

Alternative country. Bingham figured prominently on the soundtrack for the movie "Crazy Heart" which
earned Jeff Bridges an Oscar. This would've fit right in with its sad, sweet melody.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QxIhs3hYXY

31. EVERY TIME I'M WITH YOU-SEAL

The dramatic, powerful ballad that is his forte.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCdngWzWPYI

30. BOOMERANG HEART-GOOSENECK

Got this as part of a free download offered by the band. They've been compared to Steely Dan, but I'm
hearing something more akin to someone like Tower of Power. Nice jazz laced R and B at any rate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVIHGG3cqyI

29. ELECTRIC LOVE-BORNS

Modern pop. Think Foster The People from a couple of years ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYr96YYEaZY

28. STRONG ENOUGH-A SILENT FILM

Still in the modern pop arena, this power ballad sounds very much like The Killers or Keane.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KupUvNaMsEs

27. WAITING FOR LOVE-AVICII

Swedish DJ known for his forays into electronic music returns. This track moves along at a quick pace, and the singer
sure sounds a lot like Chris Martin of Coldplay but is in actuality the singer of a band called Cherry Ghost.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHHLHGNpCSA

26. LESS TO SAY-ZUGZWANG NEUTRAL

We talked about them a few places ago. More of that early 70's West Coast influence. A little banjo flavors it,
and there are some chord patterns that give the otherwise easygoing melody a somewhat unsettling element.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F47IPbZDi-E

25. THIS DAY-MICHAEL SHERWOOD AND CHRISTIAN NESMITH

Nesmith is the son of former and still on occasion Monkee Michael Nesmith. This song comes from an album called "Groovy Lemon Pie" which runs through a number of different musical styles...pop, power pop, psychedelia, music hall..but here it sounds quite like something Peter Gabriel might've come up with in the 80's or 90's.

https://michaelsherwoodchristiannesmith ... k/this-day

24. HELLO-ADELE

I try to keep a perspective when doing these year-end countdowns, but sometimes hearing a song
563,427 times tends to change your feelings toward it. I very much liked this song the first time
I heard it. My enthusiasm was diminished somewhat by the 250th time. And I rarely even listen to the
radio....
Still, I suspect that several years down the road when something else is being played to death and
this only pops up now and then, if I were to revisit the rankings here, I'd likely think I placed it
too low. Time will tell. For now, this is where it sits. The lady can sure as heck sing, that's for sure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQHsXMglC9A

23. SHUT UP AND KISS ME-MARIANAS TRENCH

This wouldn't be out of place in the early Jackson 5 catalog. It's got that kinda feel to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9WSzMUx4iI

22. ROSE GOLD-PENTATONIX

More stellar acapella work. Quite a haunting vocal riff leads to a very pretty melody.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vRWmLpRVlo

21. LAUGHING IN THE SUGAR BOWL-VERUCA SALT

Power Pop that's a dead ringer for The Bangles. This cooks big time, in and out in less
than two and a half minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMeYDS9kZcE

I'll bring out the really big guns next....

20. ITCHYCOO PARK-HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES

Formed by Johnny Depp, who plays guitar, and Alice Cooper, who sings lead on
most songs, with Aerosmiths' Joe Perry, who is an official member but doesn't
appear on all of the album's tracks. The album is mostly covers of 60's and 70's rock.
Plenty of big time guests show up, too. Overall I didn't think all that much of the album,
but this cover of the Small Faces hit clicked with me. Cooper's vocal is quite tongue
in cheek, but this version does rock.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naj4xhsLriw

19. SWEETHEART DEAL-RENO BO

Power Pop and Country Rock blend into an extremely catchy treat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1zLTRFy2A8

18. THINGS HAPPEN-DAWES

They are described as Southern California Folk Rock, and I can definitely hear
some Crosby, Stills and Nash in this...but there's something else not as easily
defined. At any rate, this song has been playing in my head an awful lot these
days, so whatever you want to call it, I call it good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNpSpMMfQis

17. ROSANNA-THE FRATELLIS

Quirky little number with a spooky mellotron riff and a playful melody.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFiFVSB8Ti4

16. AIN'T IT A DRAG-JEFF LYNNE'S ELO

If you don't like ELO, you won't like this, as it hits in the dead center of
that signature sound, albeit without the "orchestra" part of the equation being a
factor. Lynne is a pop master.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOFsx830cU8

15. NIGHT CLOSING IN-DARLENE LOVE

When I first heard this I thought, sheesh, this sounds like a Springsteen song. Sure
enough, I soon found out that this is one of two songs written for the legendary voice of
the Crystals and other early 60's Phil Spector productions. This is an obvious manifestation
of Bruce's Spector influence, and of course it fits the mighty Ms. Love like a glove.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCBC4IV8GdM

14. CALVARY CAPTAIN-THE DECEMBERISTS

To me, this sounds like a number by REM, propelled by a very infectious horn riff and a
somewhat melacholy melody.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgZVE_UaCsU

13. GET BACK UP-BARENAKED LADIES

Clever pop, as I've come to expect from this Canadian band.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnqLF_qt7_4

12. TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS-DON HENLEY

Henley returns to his country roots on his most recent album. This was the standout track
for me...and probably the one that'd be most at home on an Eagles record.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHTZwvgcGZQ

11. TRUSTFUL HANDS-THE DO

Charming and sweet sounding modern pop ditty. And another artist with a diagonal slash
through the o in its name. What the heck is the deal here?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNgJPIwg5Mc

10. ANGELS OF FENWAY-JAMES TAYLOR

OK, no secret I am a lifelong Yankee fan. Therefore, that makes me by nature, a Red Sox non-fan.
But I freely admit that there was, deep within, a small part of me that was happy for the LONG-TIME
Sox fans when they humiliated my guys and went on to finally win a World Series in 2004. Not the
Johnny-Come-Lately bandwagon fans, mind you, just the long suffering ones who deserved to finally see
their team win it all. Maybe it's because, as a Bills fan in football, I know about suffering, and I
hope one day I'll see my first Lombardi trophy. Anyway, despite the subject matter, I loved JT's love
letter to Red Sox Nation. Because, beside my being a Yankee fan, I am above all, a baseball fan.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NU9Vgu6KQU

9. RENEGADES-X AMBASSADORS

You've probably heard this one in that ubiquitous Jeep commercial. Somehow I'm not sick of this song.
Maybe because I only get to hear 30 seconds of it in the commercial.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j741TUIET0

8. BRAND NEW DAY-BRYAN ADAMS

I've never had anything against Adams. Never cared for his ballads, but his arena rock hits were likable
enough. Not "turn it up, I love this song" likable, but nothing to make me switch the station, either.
So here comes Adams in 2015 with a brand new record, some of which is pretty darn good. And with THIS
bright and sunny power popper, he's got something that just might make me finally turn that volume up!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isP8pNby39A

7.THE SOUND OF SILENCE-DISTURBED

Not a group that has ever done anything I'd listen to. Not a song I'd ever expect to be done anywhere near
justice in a cover version, so perfect and iconic is the original. Yet here we are at #7. The vocal is
dramatic and builds in intensity, but avoids the growls-from-Hades that usually defines the genre the band
comes from. He sings it like he means it, and they bring something different to the song without changing
the basic blueprint of the melody. Powerful. I will always prefer the original, but this is pretty special
as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg-g7t2l4

6. MY TYPE-SAINT MOTEL

Like Capital Cities' "Safe and Sound", this is driven largely by an insistent horn riff. Hard to sit still
with this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyVPyKrx0Xo

5. TROUBLE-KEITH RICHARDS

Richards' solo album was better overall than anything the Stones have come up with in awhile. Always thought it
funny that some of my favorite Stones songs were sung by Keith, despite his having, let's face it, a terrible voice.
That voice just fits the songs he does. This is another example of that. It's just a cool little rocker, which we
don't get enough of these days.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_btCZWi1jkg

4. HIGH & DRY-ABC

From an album called 80's Re: Covered, where artists popular in the 80's cover songs from other decades,
this is by far the standout track for me. ABC applies their smooth, British styled soul sound to this
Radiohead tune. In doing so, they come up with something that would slot in seamlessly with their biggest hits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr2AmpkUTn4

3. CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN-JORDAN SMITH

The current champion of "The Voice", which I don't normally watch. However, I read stories about him after he
had won, and saw this on YouTube. This song has always struck an emotional chord with me, so I had to check it out.
Before the video had even ended it was clear why this guy won. There are a few times he went a little overboard,
but he WAS trying to win a competition. This is available to purchase as a single on iTunes, so I deemed it eligible
for this list. This is a powerhouse performance of an epic composition. I've included both the studio recording and
the tv performance.

studio version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8YIuyvLss4

performance on "The Voice":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L29P59uoQwM

2. HOT COFFEE-GREG CHIAPELLO

For months I could only access a streaming version on Soundcloud, from a link on a power pop website. But I couldn't
find anywhere to buy the download so I could burn it to a disc and put it on my iPod. Then I found it on iTunes. Happy ending!
The song is ear candy supreme, a happy-go-lucky sound that doesn't exactly match up against its lyrics, and that
falsetto-driven chorus that so often grabs me by the ears and doesn't let go. Word of warning if you listen in the office or
with little ones nearby: he drops the f-bomb out of nowhere in the bridge, at around 2:38...just so you know.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-CDmbsGCC8

And here we are. My favorite song of 2015 is.............

1. CHINESE LANTERNS-A SILENT FILM

Such a beautiful song. Close your eyes and you can practically see the boats rowing along the water with
lanterns lit. The Asian inspired melody may be considered stereotyped, but it is highly affective and really,
just lovely. It takes me to another place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxRh7p1p3wo

So that's it for another year. Hope you find some new favorites in this list. As always, I'd love to hear what
struck your musical fancy in 2015. Thanks for reading!

Looks like another great list. I've heard a few of these and I'll check out the rest.

Offhand, I'm only familiar with two songs on the list (three if you count Adele, as I'm sure that's the song I've heard occasionally on the radio, but I try my best to ignore Adele). Renegades was one of the last new songs added to my station's regular rotation before they went back to the no-repeat format in January. Not a big fan of it. I tried very hard to dislike Uma Thurman when it got played all the time, and succeeded for a while. It just seemed real disjointed and the sampling seemed forced the first 10-15 times I heard it, but it eventually grew on me. There could be a Mecca song or two on the list (In fact, I'd be surprised if there isn't)... but with the CD being phased out last Fall, my days of having indie rock and pop I'd otherwise never listen to hammered into my brain are over with...
