The only thing on that list that actually surprised me was that someone tried to pass off "butt-toning shoes" on the public......

Actually I believe there is anecdotal evidence that butt toning shoes can work. Case in point is the pair that Ms.Camaro was wearing in a previous post when she applied them directly to BJ's ass.........toned the ass down considerably.

I think there's too much ass there to deal with...

#5 -- Office Thermostats -- made me laugh. I used to work in a building where there were no thermostats, and it was splained to us in no uncertain terms that there would never be any thermostats. Some of the rooms needed to be warmer or cooler, I forget which, because of computers. The windows didn't open either.

The "Close Door" buttons in our building elevators do work, surprisingly.

The "Walk/Don't Walk" buttons "work" in the sense that if you press one, eventually the "Walk" light will come on. If you don't press it, the stoplight will change but the "Walk" light won't come on.

Same here. Or at least at the buildings I frequent and the streets I cross.

Our "close door" buttons work, too. But I've suspected for years that the "walk" buttons were bogus.

Apropos of nothing, this is my 101st new avatar of the year (Unless you count the Rafferbee trilogy as one, then it's only #99). 2009 and 2010 both had exactly 100 avatars, so I am in record territory....

Time to start thinking about that countdown. Any suggestions Sprots....???

I suggest you QUIT COMING UP WITH HORRIFIC SPROTS AVATARS!

Do you need me to draw you a picture, as my dear sainted mother used to say?

I smell a challenge
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
