top o' the mornin'®

#1 Post by earendel » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:19 am

Well the Bored seems to be working better (thus tempting the fates).

Two-and-a-half days until the end of the fiscal year and things are really hopping around here. One of my tasks is to report upward on how our actual obligations compare to the projections made at the start of the quarter (in July). The person receiving the report will not accept negative numbers (meaning that we obligated more than we projected) so she insists that we "revise" our projections. IOW we can't "overachieve". Then next Monday I have to report on the final totals - any wagers as to how they will compare to our "projections"?

No, I report what we actually obligated. I doctor the projections so that they aren't lower than our actual obligations in order to satisfy the person to whom I send the report. It's stupid, really, but that's the bureaucracy at work.

To me it's like shooting at a wall and then painting a target around where the bullet ended up.
