Washer Advice - No Longer Needed
My washer has apparently decided to shoot craps midload. When it gets to either of the stages where the water is supposed to drain, it will click as normal, but not do anything. I can get it to start up again at the previous cycle, but the same thing happens again when it gets to where it is supposed to drain. I have a washer full of clothes and soapy water and nobody I can contact at this time of day who may be able to tell me what to do.....
Any help out there....????

Does is spin? Does it sound like the drain pump is trying to work?
You can stop the washer when it is 'drain time', siphon all the water out, let is spin and continue into the rinse cycle, siphoning again prior to final spin. At leas that get the current load done.
Maybe the pump is clogged with cat hair or shredded threads.

I'm not sure what I'm going to siphon the water out with....
No, the pump does not sound like it is trying to work. A couple clicks of the dial going forward and then utter silence....

I have a hose. What am I supposed to do... suck on it like when people try to steal gas out of a tank? That doesn't seem reasonable with a big hose....
I have never tried to siphon anything before.....

Hook it up to a faucet and turn on the water until it flows into the washer. Then disconnect it from the faucet and let the water drain.littlebeast13 wrote:BackInTex wrote:You don't own a hose?littlebeast13 wrote:

Yep, just like siphoning gas, except you can smoke afterwards if you want. Just suck enough to get water over the highest part of the hose and below the top water level. Mr Gravity does the rest.

You might try filling the hose by submerging it in the washer. Then seal one end, place it in siphoning position, and unseal it. --Boblittlebeast13 wrote:BackInTex wrote:You don't own a hose?littlebeast13 wrote:

I got as much of the water siphoned out as I could.... all but about a couple inches....
I got it to start the rinse cycle, so I'll try this again in a few minutes....

Re: Washer Advice - ASAP Please
Siphoned, manually bailed what was left with a cup, and still couldn't get the spin cycle to start. I just wrung it all out as best as I could and put it all in the dryer. Drying clothes is generally a several day process for me anyway....
Thanks for all the help. I never would have came up with the siphoning idea, nor the practical way to apply it....

Sounds like it's your wash controler (the thing with the knob). They usually are the first thing to wear out. That's probably the cheapest thing to replace.littlebeast13 wrote:Siphoned, manually bailed what was left with a cup, and still couldn't get the spin cycle to start. Hey, everybody! Post a quick remark if you think that's a great avatar!
What I did the last time that happened to me, I drug all the clothes out of the washer and hauled them to the laundrymat and started afresh. It was very messy, but it worked.
We got a new washing machine shortly thereafter. I don't remember SteelersFan's diagnosis except that it was something about not being worth the trouble to fix.

The one time something similar happened to us, it was that the drain hose had gotten kinked/clogged up, so no water could pass through it. Once I unkinked it (the washer had gotten pushed back too far, so it was pinching the hose) and cleared it, the cycles started working again.

My work here is done! I got tired of waiting for cheapass mini to replace her dishwasher--she figures as long as it still runs she doesn't care if she can't tell which cycle is running because the lights are random or that she has to open it as soon as it finishes or it'll start up again in two hours. And the damned washer is older than Rain Man and making weird noises sometimes, but it still washes.
So I headed out to your place.....
