Re: RIP Michael Jackson
TMZ is the only one who is reporting this.
I just flipped the TV to CNN to see if they'll confirm this.

Wow.
I'm not seeing that he's died, just that he's been rushed to an LA hospital. So far.

CNN sent me an email saying he suffered a cardiac arrest. No details about dying.

My local station (NBC affiliate) announced it a few minutes ago. But nothing online yet, except for, as Nelly mentioned, TMZ.

As in "this is too many death notices", that's all. Nothing more meant at the moment.

My mom called and said they broke in on the radio station she was listening to to announce he was dead.... of course, they could just be hearing the same source as VaDame....
I have a feeling he's probably a goner though.....

Re: RIP Michael Jackson
For me, this does not have the same impact, but I bet for many it has the same impact as me hearing over the radio "The King is dead. More after this." on Aug. 16, 1977.
I remember exactly what I was doing:driving home from College Station after dropping my stuff off at my apartment prior to starting my first semester at college. I was barely out of town when the news came.
This, my wife called to tell me.
The announcement of Elvis' death had a greater impact to me probably because I saw him in concert in March of that same year. I never saw Michael in concert.

Re: RIP Michael Jackson
I used to be the biggest MJ fan around, before he got too freaked out.
Still loved all his music, though.
At age 16, mom & dad took us to see the Jackson Five in Vegas. Dad tipped the Maitre d, and we sat next to the stage. Toward the end of the show, they all picked out girls from the audience to come up on stage to dance. I was once of them; Michael picked me. Then the curtain closed and all of a sudden I was backstage with him. It was awkward and we had nothing to say to each other, but an experience I'll always remember, that's for sure. Also saw him perform as a solo act.
Wonder who's gonna take care of his kids.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Re: RIP Michael Jackson
After Ed McMahon and Farrah, I wondered who would be the 3rd one. I never expected this though. I had heard last weekend that Walter Cronkite was on his way out so figured he would be the third.

My thoughts: The world has one less convicted child molester in it. So long, Mofo.
And don't give me he was a genius BS. It's just a crying shame he made his way out on the same day that someone worth grieving for also departed. I do so hope the networks do not let this overshadow Farrah's death.

Re: RIP Michael Jackson
Unbelievable.
When we heard Ed McMahon had passed, it was a mild surprise, but not shocking. The man was in his mid-80's after all. When we heard Farrah passed this morning, noone in the office was surprised. Her battle had been very public. So the first reaction was, "ok, Ed, Farrah,...who's the 3rd celebrity to round out the 3-celebrity death rule?".
I feel very confident that NOONE saw this one coming. Definitely a "Holy Crap" moment.
I can't say I had a great deal of respect for what he had become (or "allegedly" became..), but there is no denying that he was a phenominal talent. Right from the get-go, too, as "I Want You Back" is an incredibly confident and soulful performance from a very very young boy. very gifted.
Quite a shock.
