Wedding Week

Tony Biagiole & Kim Gibson
Washington, DC

This experience has been amazing for Tony and Kim, including receiving a Vespa yesterday for their wedding and for life after the wedding.

Question Topics:
* Chill Out
* Bottoms Up!
* Holla!
* '70s Movies
* What Is It?
* Love Letters
* Famous Quips
* (Geek Squad)
* (New World Order)
* (Everybody Dance Now!)
* (Cue the Music)
* (Tuning In)
* (At the Office)
* (Quake Up!)
* (The Honeymooners)

Today's experts are former $25,000 Wedding Week winners Marla and Adam Bergh.

$16,000 * Famous Quips
French president Charles de Gaulle famously quipped about the difficulty of governing a country with 246 different what?

A: National newspapers B: Languages
C: Religions D: Varieties of cheese

Tony thinks it's probably cheese, but with 7 seconds left, Tony and Kim decide to Phone A Friend.
Tony and Kim's PAF team are Tony's friend, Mike, Pflugerville, TX; Kim's dad, Robert, Crofton, MD; and Kim's brother, Andrew, Crofton, MD. They decide to call Robert.

Robert: Charles de Gaulle, cheese?

Kim: Charles de Gaulle and 246 different what? Seven seconds--six seconds, Dad.

Robert: Cheese.

Kim: Cheese? Are you sure?

Robert: Absolutely.

[Reveal] Spoiler: Answer
D: Varieties of cheese ( 6 )

$25,000 * Love Letters
In the famous poem, which of the following is not a response to the opening query, "How do I love thee"?

A: I love thee with a love B: I love thee with a purpose
C: I love thee freely D: I love thee purely

With 9 seconds left, Tony and Kim decide to Ask The Expert(s).

Adam: A seems like the answer to me, but I'm not entirely sure.

Marla: Oh! It's B. It's B. I'm pretty sure it's B.

Tony: How sure?

Marla: Umm, I'm 75% sure. It's "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways."

Kim: Yes.

Marla: And then it goes on to say, "I love thee to the depth and breadth of blah blah blah." And I'm pretty sure that "I love with with a purpose" is probably not in that poem. 75% sure, so--I don't know.

Adam: But we believe it's either A or B. 25% A, 75% B.

Kim: So A or B?

Tony: A or B is not in there?

Marla: I'm leaning towards B not being in there.

Tony: Thank you.

With 8 seconds left, Tony and Kim decide to Double Dip.

[Reveal] Spoiler: Answer
Their first answer is B.
B: I love thee with a purpose ( 8 )

-- Commercial Break --

Merdith think's it's very cool that Tony's dad, Paul, is in the audience and that Kim's dad, Robert, got the answer to the PAF question right.

$50,000 * What Is It?
What is Qom?

A: Tallest mountain in Laos B: One of Saturn's moons
C: City in Iran D: Official language of Libya

[Reveal] Spoiler: Answer
Tony and Kim guess one of Saturn's moons.

C: City in Iran ( 10 )

Tony and Kim leave with $25,000.

Well... they're better than the reality show whores. (That's not really saying much.)

This is a rewrite of a $500,000 question from PTBAM.

$25K: Never read this poem. PAF, please.

I knew the $50K question immediately. I'm going for $100K with three lifelines.

This was a pretty entertaining "expert" team effort. First, Adam gives his hunch without a single supporting detail, then Marla gives her answer and tries to sell it as best she can (she doesn't specifically complete any of the phrases that she thinks are in there, but at least she demonstrates a decent familiarity with the poem).

And then Adam has to offer his WAG again in the summary!

At least he didn't try to chip away at Marla's 75%. :P

After squandering the PAF at 16K which might have helped save them from having to use 2 more lifelines at 25K it was no surprise that they missed this one. But despite having more than 50 named moons at last count B was not the one I would have picked. D of course was not even a good distractor. For some reason Qom sounded familiar as a city name to me but to be safe I might have used the DD on C and then A if I still had it here (it sounded vaguely like it could be Laotian to me as well. Turns out the actual name of the tallest mountain is Phou Bia). It was an easy google PAF of course.

Judging from the way Robert rephrased the question, he was probably Googling it. And it paid off.

Well, well, well, so the experts do know a thing or two after all.

Afterward Meredith said something like, "I didn't know that, either," which I find hard to believe for someone who is supposed to be a journalist. It was, after all, the home of Ayatollah Khomeini.

Well, that's not counting whatever special wedding present they got from the sponsors! :P
