Nevada Primary Elections Tomorrow

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Tue Feb 06, 2024 12:22 am

Both the Democrats and Republicans are holding primary elections tomorrow (Tuesday), but the ground rules are different, which is sure to lead to a lot of confusion and multiple claims of victory.

For the Democrats, tomorrow's primary will be the official method of selecting delegates to the convention. President Biden, Marianne Williamson, and several people you've never heard of are on the ballot. Expect similar results to South Carolina.

For the Republicans, tomorrow's primary is just a popularity contest. The delegates will be chosen in a caucus to be held Thursday. Nikki Haley, Mike Pence, Tim Scott, and several people you've never heard of are on the primary ballot. One person not on the primary ballot is Donald Trump. That's because under Nevada caucus rules, anyone appearing on the primary ballot cannot participate in the caucus. Trump is listed on the caucus ballot with one other person, Ryan Binkley. This means that Nikki Haley will likely rack up a substantial and meaningless win in the primary, while Trump will rack up a substantial and meaningful (in terms of delegates) win in the caucuses.

Is "None of the Above" still an option there in Nevada?
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

"None of these candidates" will appear on both the Democratic and Republican primary ballots. Democratic delegates will be apportioned based on the percentages of voters who select an actual candidate. People can vote in both the Republican primary and caucus, so Trump supporters could select "none of these candidates" in today's primary.

"None of these candidates" has beaten Nikki Haley by a 2-1 margin in the non-binding Republcan primary. President Biden has won the Democratic primary with approximately 90% of the vote, while "None of these candidates" received 6%.
