RIH Fred Tokars

Tokars was a well-known criminal attorney (in more ways than one) in Atlanta in the early 1990s. In 1992, he hired a hitman to kidnap his wife (who wanted to divorce him) and kill her. His two young sons were in the car when she was shot. The killer left the scene on foot and the boys (6 and 4 at the time) had to walk through the countryside for help. Tokars was actually convicted of federal racketeering charges first before being convicted of the murder of his wife and died in federal prison in Pennsylvania. He had MS and had been a near-invalid for years. Sadly, one of his sons (who never really got over the experience) died a few weeks earlier.
