37. Let us now return to the Documentary and Experimental Film class I took back in 1975 … and to this 1946 classic in which a woman falls asleep in a chair and dreams of chasing a mysterious hooded figure with a mirror for a face.
This is something called Meshes of the Afternoon directed by Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid. And since there are a number of less obscure "afternoon" films Frank could have used, I'm guessing that this film is here for a match with "meshes."

Is that how he's usually billed?

It's not technically a match, but I'm guessing that Roman Polanski (Chinatown) goes with Spartacus.

Bong Joon Ho (Parasite) goes with Up in Smoke

And I have a bone to pick with Frank's comment on this one. He said that it didn't matter which Cheech and Chong movie we selected, but only this one works with Bong.

I think that Penny Marshall goes with Lincoln rather than (Color of) Money or (Fistful of) Dollars.

Looks like he had the nickname "Wild Bill" Wellman. That could go with 92. All Quiet on the WESTERN front.... maybe.

Oh, and Wellman was a Leap Day baby! I like finding out stuff like that...

You mean Cheech and Chong made movies that weren't stoner movies?

This is the one I thought would give it away if people started listing the directors of the various movies.

That's not what I meant. I meant how he is actually credited in the movies

A bit of sneakiness here. Prince directed Under the Cherry Moon and that goes with Hamlet.

You've got "Wild" Bill Wellman and "Savage" Steve Holland (Better off Dead). I'm guessing one of them goes with The Howling, probably Wellman.

Dr. No was directed by Terence Young, which probably goes with Little Children

41. ROMANCE directed by Clarence Brown, goes with 84. My Favorite BRUNETTE

All Quiet on the Western Front was directed by Lewis Milestone. What director's name could be a milestone?

I realize Chinatown's Roman Polanski goes Spartacus but I would love to match him with Butthead.

Also, Henry V was directed by Laurence Olivier. You put oliviers in drinks. Can he go with Cocktail?

Frank said we would have fun. I AM having fun. :D :D

I had a different movie in mind for #87, and I realize now it is important to get that one correct. Forgot it was used twice.

70. “Twelve people go off into a room: twelve different minds, twelve different hearts, from twelve different walks of life; twelve sets of eyes, ears, shapes, and sizes. And these twelve people are asked to judge another human being as different from them as they are from each other. And in their judgment, they must become of one mind - unanimous. It's one of the miracles of Man's disorganized soul that they can do it, and in most instances, do it right well. God bless juries.”
ANATOMY OF A MURDER? INHERIT THE WIND?
This is Anatomy of a Murder, which goes with F. Gary Gray, who directed Straight Outta Compton.

A milestone could be a turning point. Although I don't think it's what Frank had in mind, because he mentioned needed the right movie for #87.

Unless that was in reference to putting oliviers in your cocktails.

92. ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT directed by Lewis Milestone, goes with 38. TURNING POINT

Maybe???
