The Taliban have agreed to a one-week "reduction in violence" that could lead to a permanent truce and withdrawal of most U.S. and allied forces.

I hope that, despite our eagerness to end our longest war, we continue to support the Afghan government and not allow another Taliban takeover.

The "reduction in violence" week is done and the agreements have been signed.

Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan

The U.S. and allies agree to a withdrawal timeline. In return, the Taliban will oppose terrorism and have talks with the Afghan government. Up till now the Taliban refused to even acknowledge that there is an Afghan government, so that's progress. Still, there are many hurdles before true peace is achieved.
