RIP Pat Sullivan

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Mon Dec 02, 2019 6:01 am

Heisman Trophy winner at Auburn, played in the NFL for the Falcons and Redskins. He later coached at TCU and Samford University, and diagnosed with oral cancer in 2003. ... 41573.html ... index.html ... bacco-use/

On a personal note, knowing that he viewed his use of smokeless tobacco as a cause of his cancer, I wrote to Mr. Sullivan about five years ago because Son-of-Spiff had been a smokeless tobacco user for many years. I asked him to write a letter to S-o-S about his experiences with the cancer and treatments, and he did. I'm not sure if that helped or not (I suspect his wife was a bigger influence), but he did stop dipping. He still goes through waaaay too much Nicorette, but I hope that's a better long-term solution than his previous course.

Pat Sullivan was a great football player but an ever better man. Always humble, generous and a great role model.
