RIP Rick Ocasek

#1 Post by Vandal » Sun Sep 15, 2019 7:48 pm

Ric Ocasek, famed frontman for The Cars rock band, has been found dead in a Manhattan apartment.
The New York City police department said officers responding to a 911 call found the 75-year-old Ocasek at about 4 p.m. on Sunday. They said there was no sign of foul play and that the medical examiner was to determine a cause of death.

The Cars chart-topping hits in the late 1970s and 1980s included “Just What I Needed,” ″Shake It Up” and “Drive.” The band was inducted last year into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

OK, this officially sucks. Friday it's Eddie Money. Yesterday Ocasek. The Grim Reaper is apparently going after artists whose songs made up significant portions of our band's playlist.

Someone tell the members of Cheap Trick to be very very careful over the next week or so. Mick and Keith might want to take it easy for awhile as well. Well, maybe not Keith...I suspect he'll be the one escorting the Reaper to ITS final reward...

The Cars' first album is, in my opinion, one of the very best debut albums of all time.

My college roommate accused me of going "punk" because I liked and played that album. :? At the time he was a hard core Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd fan. A few years later he had several Cars tapes.

Crap From The Past out of Minneapolis recently did a Ric Ocasek tribute show. There were more American Top 40 clips (just Casey this time; no Shadoe), but unlike the Eddie Money tribute CFTP, it wasn't all AT40 clips. Here's the link to the show:
