Official Donny, Drumpf, Trump Thread

Since the trump haters like to post at least one complaint or stupid meme every day just to remind us how he's threatening our democracy, I thought we could make one thread for it. I think it will soon become the longest one we have ever had, because they all seem to jump on the newest one and pile on the inane insults or moralize to the rest of us for their own entertainment.

Can we make this a sticky?

Or you could make a thread for all the good things he does, and it will be the shortest one we've ever had.

OK, I'll contribute:

Trump administration considers new tax cut for the wealthy

Flock's fellow fiscal conservatives, such as the Koch brothers, are concerned about the ballooning deficit.

Here's a good story (am I allowed to mix them in the same post?):

Kelly Agrees to Remain Chief of Staff Through 2020 at Trump’s Request

This one's tangentially related to Trump, but it belongs in this thread.

Ohio congressman Jim Jordan is trying to become Speaker when Paul Ryan leaves. Jordan is an ultraconservative who recently called for Rod Rosenstein to be impeached. He'd be a Speaker in the mold of Dennis Hastert: Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State and had no idea that the team doctor was molesting hundreds of wrestlers.

(I condensed three news articles in this post, and in the last post too. This thread could set a record.)

Watching Trump vs. the Koch brothers is like watching two dinosaurs fight in one of the Jurassic Park movies.

Jordan claims that he had no idea that the team doctor was molesting hundreds of wrestlers. There are witnesses who have said he did.

Unless the daughter was privy to any of these conversations, this information, if true, doesn't do anything other than indicate that Trump lied about barely knowing Manafort, a statement which everyone except die hard Trump supporters already knew. At this point: (1) most people know that almost anything Trump says could well be a lie, and (2) those that don't won't ever be convinced otherwise.

Donald Trump wrote:Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics – and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!
After months of claiming this meeting was about adoptions, Trump finally admits what everyone else in the world with the possible exception of Flock knew. That meeting may well have been illegal in and of itself, but if there were any quid pro quos discussed, that would definitely put it over the edge. And Trump Jr., Kushner, and Manafort were in the meeting.

Getting information on an opponent is one thing, doing so from a foreign power is something else.

Trump calls Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with Russian lawyer 'opposition research'

Not the date of this USA Today article. The #FakeNews have a short memory; Trump's story hasn't changed in over a year.

Meanwhile, nothing new about Peter Smith:

Yet again SSS can't get his facts straight. Trump has never denied the intent of the meeting was about possible opposition research (the same type of stuff the DNC paid [colluded with] Russians to provide, albeit fake). What they found out in the meeting is the Russian set up the meeting under that false pretense (opposition research) to pitch support for limiting or removing the Magnitsky Act (re: adoptions).

Actually, the Russian lawyer gave a folder of "opposition research" to the Trump team, but it was crap.

Here’s the Memo the Kremlin-Linked Lawyer Took to the Meeting With Donald Trump Jr.

That document couldn't help Trump, but the Russians hoped it would turn Trump against Bill Browder, with flimsy charges that he broke Russian law and contributed illegally obtained funds to Clinton. Browder's been a thorn in Putin's side for a long time. He still is: he's one of the Americans the Kremlin wants to interview in exchange for Mueller questioning the Russian hackers.

The Russians distribute a self-serving memo about the purpose of the meeting and that's proof that the meeting was about adoptions. And who are the Russians that the Democrats ares supposed to have colluded with? Christopher Steele is a former British intelligence agent.

And while Trump Jr. has issued statements walking back his initial claims, this is the first time Trump Sr. has admitted it, while at the same time denying he knew about it beforehand. This may be an effort on Trump Sr.'s part to again claim ignorance if and when Trump Jr. gets indicted. Also, if Trump Sr. was responsible for drafting the original Trump Jr. response ("it was all about adoptions"), that is evidence of obstruction of justice.

Some good background from CNN:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/05/politics ... index.html
The point is that there are no good answers for Trump here. His tweet on Sunday casts doubt on the stories he and Don Jr. initially told -- and the ones they are telling now. And the bigger issue here is that this isn't a one-off: Trump, his son and the entire Trump operation have struggled to tell the full truth -- or even close -- a bunch of times now in relation to the Russia investigation. Why? Maybe Mueller knows.
My view is that there was more than one meeting between Trump's people and the Russians, and that this is just the only one that's become public. I'm curious as to exactly who leaked the story in the first place, and, if it was one of the three Americans involved or Rob Goldstone.

Read the old article I posted. Here's what Trump said a year ago:
It's called opposition research, or even research into your opponent. Politics is not the nicest business in the world, but it's very standard where they have information and you take the information.
And today:
This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!
Same idea in almost the same words. Of course, you can find Trump quotes that contradict these two - just like Trump contradicts himself all the time on every topic.

If you recall, Kushner had to reveal the meeting on his security clearance form. We don't know if somebody reading that form clued the Times in, or if Kushner leaked it himself to get ahead of the story.
