Did you recognize any of the questions as having been on the show before? It doesn't air where I live, so I've been studying transcripts. I'm wondering if my study time's better spent some other way.
While I'm at it, does anyone know if there's a way to get an e-mail notification when there's a post on a thread to which you've subscribed? I can't find it.

The test was pretty much a cupcake, I think I might have gotten one question wrong. The thing to remember is that the test isn't objectively scored pass/fail, and whether or not you get to the AP interview is somewhat dependent on how many contestants they are looking to add to the pool and I suspect the wranglers have some input as well.

It's true that they don't disclose the passing score (our general consensus has been that it's 25/30) so they're free to adjust it at any time. I don't think there's any evidence to support your suspicion, though. Once they've set the day's (or the session's) passing score, they run all the scantron forms through an automatic grading machine. There's no opportunity, at that point, to associate individual test scores with personalities who might have made an impression in line.

After the written test is done, all of the factors you mentioned have a chance to come into play for the auditions.

That's a good question. I didn't watch the show regularly prior to auditioning, but I did play the Facebook game, and I think I might have seen one of the questions there, but I couldn't say with absolute certainty.

I took the test in Denver yesterday and passed. I thought my interview went well, but I just had the one. I don't know that anyone had more than one. And the lady told me twice that selection to the contestant pool was "random," which is unlike anything I've heard before. Also, what good are interviews and applications if selection is random? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Took the test at Foxwoods yesterday, didn't pass. i was kind of stunned because I was absolutely positive about 23, and for the remaining 7, I felt I was making fairly educated guesses so I felt highly confident I'd get at least 2. But they didn't read my number. I'm not that sad, though, because to my great surprise they weren't actually conducting interviews on site. For people who passed the test, they were just scheduling interviews in New York. And the two days they were holding interviews were days I'm not available to go to New York. I would have had to have done a phone interview instead, and it seems highly unlikely I would have been placed in the contestant pool from a phone interview. I wish they had told us in advance there weren't going to be any interviews that day, it would have saved me a trip.

I think their definition of random is different from the standard one. Try "arbitrary". They'll choose whoever they like, for whatever reasons they like, and those reasons will change whenever they like.

I belong to an organization where we used to tell people, "Keep trying, you'll make it if you try long enough." We thought we were being truthful, but we weren't. So we quit saying it.
