I would think that since I got as far as I did and they didn't select me, that it would be a waste to try again this year. Next year I probably wouldn't be able to afford the trip to New York.tlynn78 wrote:LostinTrinity wrote:Yes, this was my first and probably my last audition. It was a trip of a lifetime to go to New York and I will likely never have the money to go there again after this year.Sorry. Was this your first audition?
My consolation is that I got as far into the audition process as I could and that's a lot.
Don't give up; there's the on-the-road auditions. Hopefully one near you.

I went today. No video interview. Only a subway ride away, only reason I went.

Re: 2013 Audition List
The interview wad pleasant enough. Their website is broken so i didn't get the application ahead of time. Didn't give a good answer to what is entertaining about you.
The process is the same as it has been. The people in the testing room emphasized to us to be ourselves, only bigger during the interview. Smallest group of people I have ever auditioned with besides the first season restaurant (was it Hard Rock?). They added a new question to the application, I forget what it was, but the rest of the questions were the same. The test, I did not recognize the questions from the show like I normally do. I believe if I heard right they are going to tape in the building where we took the test today (106th street).

I had a little write up about my audition in my local paper. I could post a link, but you need a subscription to read it online. I wish I could send it to the show people and say, look even my audition made it into our paper, imagine if I was on your show.

I was quoted (along with several other BBs) in an article in the New York Times. That didn't help my auditioning outcome, either.

LOL, it was our tiny local paper that only comes out once a week. I live in a very small community in Northern California. The county is huge (bigger than Vermont and supposedly bigger than Texas if it were flat) but only 13,000 people and not even ONE stoplight! Anyway to officially answer your question the paper is the Trinity Journal.MarleysGh0st wrote:What paper?LostinTrinity wrote:I had a little write up about my audition in my local paper. I've never gotten lost in Trinity County...and I can attest to the fact that there is not one traffic light.

I auditioned June 18 and got the happy postcard (postmarked 6/25) on 6/27.
It was my third time auditioning (once in 2009, once in 2011) and my second time getting to the video interview.

Re: 2013 Audition List
Can you add a non member to the list? Since she has no handle you can call her "bassplayingsugarplum". She's auditioning in Las Vegas on July 10th in the afternoon sessions. I know bob#s will be there and I know someone else who will be there in the morning session and will also try for a spot at the 7pm movie audition. You can call him "friendofuly".

Re: 2013 Audition List
Yep. I got it in the mail. I was post marked June 25 and I got it on the 27th. I auditioned on the 18th. I'm assuming they too a break for the 4th and may have had some slow down as they moved locations. I wouldn't be too antsy about it. I got my card in the mail in the middle of a long haul day where I was just stopping home to change my clothes before going back out to second job. It was a nice feeling. Even if I stay in the pool and never get called, it was a nice feeling.emi wrote:Maddy with the happy card, this came in the mail? I assume u had the video, did u feel it went well?

Congrats!! Now the wait...sigh.
When you say you "hit it outta the park" did you immediately have a good feeling about how it was going? How could you tell, they laugh at your jokes, give you signs or act impressed? What did you talk about and did they ask you trivia in the video part?

Re: 2013 Audition List
I'm a singer and frontman for a rock band, so I've gotten good over the years at projecting a confident, conversational persona. You need to do that right from the get-go. As I've seen mentioned elsewhere, be you (because they can spot a phony a mile away after all these years), but be you on your best day ever - act like you would if you were just told you made it through the audition - upbeat, smiling, animated. Get to the audition early so you can chat up the wranglers, they are part of the evaluation process for sure. They are also a good source of information about the process, so don't hesitate to ask questions so you can get your convo on. Treat everyone with whom you come in contact to your best smile and genuine warmth. The wranglers will do warm-up questions while you're in line, answer them loud and proud (and correctly...) NOTE: There was a metal detector in use as you come into the building, so leave the machete at home, Leatherface.
The producers will email you a copy of the questionnaire when they let you know when you will audition. Make sure you do your questionnaire in advance so you have a chance to make your answers interesting, intriguing and capable of starting a conversation. Be prepared to do 15 seconds on any piece of data in that questionnaire. Don't put in BS, again, they've gotten good at sniffing that out.
The test was pretty much a cupcake, I think I might have gotten one question wrong. The thing to remember is that the test isn't objectively scored pass/fail, and whether or not you get to the AP interview is somewhat dependent on how many contestants they are looking to add to the pool and I suspect the wranglers have some input as well.
Once you get to the AP interview, that's where the questionnaire (or more to the point, your responses in real time to their questions about your answers) will make or break you. They are looking for personalities, not trivia experts. Make believe your mother is giving you advice; sit up straight, make eye contact, SMILE! Imagine you are on-camera at any time after you take the test, pretty much. In my interview, we talked mostly about my job in radio, my motorcycle collection, my band, and I had 15 second responses in my head for all of these ready to roll. "Hominahominahomina" = no cookie. I got great body language from the interviewer, she was leaning forward as was I, she was engaged in the conversation. That whole process took no more than a couple of minutes. At that point, I didn't think there was anything I would have done differently, so that gave me confidence going into the video shoot.
The video audition was interesting, I was taken aside into an area around the corner from the main room (remember that the location for all this has changed since I did my audition). The AP there asked me about singing and asked if I'd sing a little for him. I belted out a couple of lines at full voice, that got his attention for sure and seemed to help matters I think. There was a series of trivia questions where I did the out-loud thought process on the ones I wasn't lead-pipe sure on, that also went well. I did get one question wrong in that segment, but I figured that's part of the process too. After that was done, I was told someone would be in touch either way and was escorted out.
At that point, I again was pretty happy with my performance. I made sure I went back when departing and thanked the wranglers, who were by then setting up the next group of contestants, for their help in preparing for the process. Again, be nice to everybody, you can gain more than you can lose by it.
Good luck everybody!
