Since I have been lax at checking the pending registry the last couple months due to the overwhelming amount of spam accounts we've been getting (literally 50-100 a day), I have put a note in the Bored Reference Thread (stickied at the top of the forum) regarding how to go about getting my attention for account activation. Hopefully any prospective newbies will see the announcement here or up there, since it is that time of the year....

Hi, I'm a new member who has been lurking for a month or so in anticipation of my audition. I made the trip to New York last week and Auditioned on June 12th in the 5:00 session. I asked several of the people I sat with if they were members of the bored, but didn't find any...

I live in Northern California and had planned to make the trip with my mother, she's pretty good at the BAM, J!, crosswords and such, so I suggested she audition as well since otherwise she'd have to find something else to do. My sister ended up at the last minute going with us, so she decided to try out, what the heck.

Well, sis and I both passed the test (it was very pop culture heavy, so mom didn't do as well as we'd hoped). We both passed the interview and got the video test, so we're both anxiously waiting for 2-3 weeks to pass and I don't know how I'm going to stand it.

The day after the interview my phone rang at 6:45am (except for it was just a voice mail) and for a second I thought they were calling me right away, since I even with only 4 hours sleep I knew no one from the west coast would be calling me at that time in CA.

I can only just hope that I didn't blow it during the video.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Bob, I expect you getting in the pool this time (or ask if they'll let you automatically have my last year of time in the pool)! lol

I guess they're sending out sad emails now instead of postcards. My sister and I both received ours today. Guess I blew the video.

Sorry. Was this your first audition?

Yes, they've switched to e-mails; think of all the postage they're saving! But, in fairness, there was a time when they didn't send out any Sad notices at all. Auditioners were left on mailbox stakeout forever, until that last shred of hope withered and died. This is, marginally, more considerate.

Yes, this was my first and probably my last audition. It was a trip of a lifetime to go to New York and I will likely never have the money to go there again after this year.

My consolation is that I got as far into the audition process as I could and that's a lot.

A thanks, but no thanks that arrives 8 days post-audition, vs. the cruel card that never shows up at all. How can this be only marginally more considerate?

The only thing I can say about how fast the no thanks came, is that I was excited before I got the email and I wish it could have lasted a little while longer. Even a week longer would have been ok...I hadn't even gotten the chance to tell everyone about the trip/audition yet and now I have to end it with, "but the didn't pick us" instead of "so now we're just waiting to hear". But if the alternative was that I would never hear back, then I'm glad at least they let me know.

It could be worse, at least they didn't put you in the pool twice and not call you...

That must be torture. I was thinking about being in the pool for 2 years and having to know everything between now and then and would have a little panic attack, so I feel for you for sure.

I received my sad e-mail exactly 7 days after my test, but since I did not make the video interview this was expected. Sorry to hear that Lost In Trinity and her sister didn't make the cut. Good luck to those auditioning in the future.

Anybody know what's happening with the WWTBAM website? My daughter has been trying to get an audition, fills out the whole form, hits submit--and it crashes with an internal server error. This has been going on since Monday. The HELP tab at the bottom just hangs.

This has happened on two different computers. You'd think by now they'd have noticed a reduction in traffic and would have fixed it.

:x

Skip the Intern* is working as hard as he can!

*This is the Bored nickname for whatever unknown WWTBAM employee happens to have responsibility for such things. The truth is we don't know who's the tech person behind their web site, and we certainly don't have any inside information about issues they might have with it. They don't share such details with the public.

Don't give up; there's the on-the-road auditions. Hopefully one near you.
