Cartoon memory deficit

#1 Post by hermillion » Wed Mar 05, 2008 10:16 am

One of my students walked in this morning, badly in need of a haircut! His hair is hanging down in front of his eyes and I was suddenly struck by the memory of a cartoon dog with the same problem. I can't remember the name of the character, or what cartoon he might have appeared in.

All I know is it is a large, lumpish looking, white dog. Black ears? Hair hanging down in front of the eyes.

Anyone? Bueller?

There was a series of Warner Bros. cartoons featuring a sheepdog and a coyote. The two would be shown punching in for work and exchanging pleasantries, then a series of attempts by the coyote to steal a sheep, always foiled by the dog, and then at the end of the day they would punch out, once again exchanging pleasantries. The sheepdog had a mop of long brown hair (his eyes were never seen). One or the other of the two was named Ralph, the other was Sam.

ear - that's the one! I needed to have names so I can do an image search to show my student.

Thanks, all!

I went off to look up old For Better or Worse strips, because I had misremembered the family's dog as an Old English Sheepdog. In the process, I ran across the strips in which Farley saved little April from drowning. The effort was too much for the old dog's heart.

Now my face is all wet.

That's the exact image I found. I'll show it to Chris as soon as he finishes his test.

:D
