I am definitely going to need some additional details from the news media before I am convinced about this story.

Several previous ricin scares have been false-positive tests. Also, without knowing what symptoms the patient had, it is much too early to conclude if they are consistent with ricin poisoning.

The story said that the material had been positively identified by the lab. I know, I know, could still be "falsely positive".

Nobody else (except the hazmat team I'd guess) has been in the room; they have to have suspected something right away. Its a story with very little info, so far.

There were a bunch of vials of the pulverized ricin in the room along with a few castor beans...

...this tells me this guy may have been making the stuff and accidentally poisoned himself. Who knows what he had in mind--since he is in a coma, he isn't telling, but I'm thinking we may have lucked out of something nasty here.
