Re: 2012 Audition List
Hey all, long-time reader first time poster. I used the Audition Advice thread to prepare me for my audition in late May! The first time I didn't pass the test, but I came back the following week, passed the test, got an on-camera interview and about a week ago I received the happy post card!
Now, I know that some people on the board have never been called after getting into the contestant pool, but for those who have, how long does it usually take? Just trying to decide how many days I should look expectantly at my cell phone before giving it a rest .

Congratulations and good luck!
The Call might come at any time from almost immediately to a year or more after you splash in the pool. Don't get too impatient waiting for it!
They haven't announced when they're starting the taping schedule for this season. They might not start before September, in which case I wouldn't expect any calls to go out before early August.

Re: 2012 Audition List
Are you local to the NYC area, nhbuffbc, or from further away? Locals sometimes get last minute calls to come in the next morning, when the previous day's contestants do worse than expected and they need more contestants in the green room to avoid the chance of running out. Auditioners from "Elsewhere" never get those chances.

Re: 2012 Audition List
Thanks all! My auditions were May 31st and June 7th.
I live in Chicago, so I suppose I won't get any last second calls. Good to know I might not hear until August though. I'll stop staring a hole into my phone between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. until then .

Re: 2012 Audition List
They do the video interviews in secret, so that none of the other test passers notice. Did your audition take place in the ABC cafeteria (the W. 66th St. entrance)? In my audition, those of us selected for the video (there was just me and one other guy that I noticed) were sent to another table to sign a release form. Then I was taken around the corner, into a hallway, to do the video, which was completely out of sight of anyone still there.tabcourt wrote:June 7 flunked test. It's not at all like the old days of 2001, or like the J! auditions, which are done in front of the entire group.

Re: 2012 Audition List
Hey all, first post here.
I'm a 21 year old college student from south central IL, staying in CT till early August doing some computer science research for school. I applied to the June 12th auditions in NYC. There were about sixty of us there, seven of us passed the written test, and four (from the seven) passed the interview. I was sent over to the table to sign the release forms and then went to my interview.
I had just jogged from Grand Central to the ABC studios in pouring rain - I thought I was going to be late (I'm from IL, I don't know how long it takes to go from one place to another in NYC)! My audition was at 7 pm, but I got there around 4:30 and they had me go in with the 5:00 people. So when I got to the interview with one of the show's producers, I can only imagine what I may have looked like. Anyway, I remember reading online that if you make it this far, try not to look in the camera, but just maintain eye contact with the producer. Through out the interview, I unfortunately did two quick glances to the camera - how bad do you think that is?
He asked me another five trivia questions during the interview of about the same difficulty as the questions on the written test. I got all five correct, and sort of talked them out. On a couple, I didn't wait for him to say the four choices, I just answered - he didn't seem to mind. After I answered the fifth question, he said "Ok." He didn't say I got it right or anything, so I asked, and he said I did get it right. Not sure what that was about it; I thought the interview was going well. He didn't offer to shake my hand at the end nor did he say to be on the look out for a post card or anything. I did receive a post card at the end of last month saying I'm in the contestant pool though.
I'm hoping to get on College Week. How likely do you guys think that is? I know it's impossible to say, but I have no idea how many people even auditioned in total, nor how many of those people were college students.

You're in the pool, which is more than I can say from my video interview.check2012 wrote:I'm hoping to get on College Week. How likely do you guys think that is? Does it really make a difference to you if you get The Call for College Week or for a regular edition? College Week shows may have more college-oriented questions, but you'd have a chance to win money, either way.

Re: 2012 Audition List
I don't remember telling the producer about jogging those 20+ blocks. To be honest, I don't recall much of what we walked about. For my "quirk" that I put on my application, I said that I always drink orange juice before a big intellectual event (test, chess game, Millionaire audition, ect.). The first thing he asked me when the interview (with the producer) began was, "So, Steve, where's your orange juice?" I wasn't expecting that, that's for sure. But I spoke loudly and with confidence, maintained eye contact, all that (except for those two times I checked out the camera).
Do they draw names randomly out of the pool, or do the producers simply review every contestant in the pool and then choose one there (aka not random)?
I've done a bit of research about my odds now that I'm in the pool. One source said anywhere from 2/3 to 3/4 of the people in the pool are called to be on the show. Another source said about 350 are kept in the pool, 175 episodes are filmed a season, and approximately 1.75 people are on each show (one person's full run, plus 3/4 of another person's). So it looks like my odds, based on at least those sources, are about 50%.
I'm obviously ok with being on either College week or the general show. My knowledge of other college's mascots and sports statistics approach zero very quickly
But if I get the call saying I'm on college week, let me tell you this: Every free second I have will be spent studying college sports statistics. Who needs sleep?
