Family Thing Update

#1 Post by peacock2121 » Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:45 am

I told yous guys about the family thing I am planning.

It has been finalized.

We are all going up the one of the Finger Lakes (Conesus Lake), where my older sister has a house. We are renting a second one.

The very best part is that my brother has a son that has been a bit estranged from the family. I got to spend time with him last year, many in my family have not seen him in close to 20 years. He will be with us for the week.

I am more than excited.

It means my mom will have all of her family there - each and every one.

All the kids, all the grand kids and all the great-grand kids.

My dad will get that as well, although this ain't about him.

They do this thing on the 4th of July (we will be there then), where all of the people who have houses on the lake, at a certain hour, light flares. The entire lake is rimmed with lights. Michelle says that even now, 10 years since the first time she saw it, it takes her breath away.

I am excited.

My brother's wife loves to cook and she and my brother make a great team in the kitchen. They are going to do the cooking for all of us - 15 adults and 2 little ones.

The rest of us will do the clean-up.

Works for me.

We do this on Cayuga Lake, too. Ithaca usually has its Independence Day fireworks a couple days early, to save money.

It's true! 8)

The fireworks haven't been the same for me, though, since they stopped having them at Cornell's Schoelkopf Stadium. Just because they had to erect a new building in the way.

How far are you from Conesus Lake?

Wanna take a day trip and meet the family from which I came?

That's the westernmost of the Finger Lakes, probably about 2 hours drive from here. It'd be shorter if all the other lakes weren't in the way.

I think I might be able to risk a visit. :P

Let's talk about it again when the time gets closer.

They stopped the fireworks because of a new building?
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Yeah. They used to set the fireworks off in a practice field behind the stadium. The new building--the computer science department's "Theory Center"--is too close to that for safety.

Cornell administrators are just a bunch of spoilsports.
