Red moon -- taken with a phone, but definitely there.

Did you see Saturn & Regulus "escorting" the moon?

I checked out Saturn with the 20x80 binocs, and the rings were easily visible :)

If Saturn is to the left of the Moon, then I saw it, and I believe I saw the rings too!

Saturn is to the left, and the bright star Regulus (the Heart of Leo the Lion) is above.

I was only out briefly saw the two of them but with no binocs could not tell which was which as I would need binocs to see the rings of Saturn.

I wonder if I captured them on this previous, blurrier shot.

Not a chance here, 100% cloud cover from about noon on.

Snowing hard now, wish me luck driving around the California and Texas transplants in the a.m.

No offense, all y'all.

I stayed up to watch most of it, and am half-asleep this morning. But it was a sight to see.

There was a time when I'd always run outside to see a lunar eclipse like this, but other than one peek when I woke up yesterday evening, I stayed inside. It didn't help that it that the temperature was in the teens....

And it was crystal clear all of last evening, and now you can hear the telltale pinging of sleet outside this morning....

The astronomer child still in me had me outside just as totality set in. Cold, crisp night, with Orion about ninety degrees around from the moon, Sirius brightly following his master, and the Big Dipper almost on the opposite side of the sky. Way cool.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Thank you for the pretty pictures John.

It rained here yesterday and it was still cloudy in the evening.

Emma tried watching, but every time she saw something, a cloud got in the way.

It was cloudy, and even a few flurries, so I had to "watch" it on the internet. Stephen had stayed up, and was bummed...

Ryan-the-ten-year-old-who-wants-to-be-a-space-scientist started checking outside every ten minutes or so until we finally had to send him to bed. The clouds kept him from seeing even a hint of the moon, he was bummed.

I kept checking and the sky became crystal clear before 11. Got him up and dressed so we could stand in the front yard and watch. Had us a nice little discussion on space, time travel and the effects of light pollution. All in all a good night.

Started here around 6 30 pm, and by 7.00 was full on beautiful.

Clear dark night.

Big J and I went up to the roof of the building with mugs of tea and a couple of blankies. We sat and watched for about 1/2 hour and just talked quietly.

I was so amazed that he spent that much time with me LOL.

and that such a technology kid, was so fascinated with something so natural.

It was a great moment of bonding.
