For that matter neither are pumpkin or cucumber. Except when they are. But there is usually no convincing the more dogmatic types...

It is all contextual. Botanically speaking all three are fruits. Only carrots are not a fruit. They are a root. But it is rather like rectangles and squares. Because vegetable is not a scientific/botanical term most anything can be a vegetable but not all vegetables are a fruit.

And many things are a fruit in the true scientific/botanical sense that we might not think of as fruits such as grains (think corn which most people might think of as a vegetable) or nuts.

And then of course there is one of my favorite hard to classify foods, the pineapple. Kind of the marsupial of the fruit world I suppose.

But my favorite comment on the subject from one site was this:

Who cares if they are fruits or vegetables! Put them all into your mouth and eat them. Case closed. Whether they are fruits or vegetables, when they come out your rear-end, they are called 'Stools'. Now, are stools fruits or vegetables?

And here I thought stools were furniture. And I don't care what anyone says I am not interested in having one come out my rear end...

Where is kitty sandwich when you need it???

I would have had no idea, nor would I trust the audience to know it, either, so I'd be PAFing.

Mo is certainly quick-witted, evidenced by quips like this one (and the one yesterday about Boeing "not taking off"). Good thing he's right so often.
