He also mentioned that his relatives changed their names to "Angry", and other such words.

In our family I am the onion-slicer. I generally slice them under running water so they don't cause me to tear up.

Never heard the song but knew the show took place in Wisconsin (sort of an update of "Happy Days").

Is it possible that Billy misheard the question and thought John was asking which country was half the size of the US? Otherwise this seems inexplicable.

As for me, nihil obstat®.

But that would be wrong, too, since Brazil is only slightly smaller than the US.

Maybe John should have called Bubba.

I've never heard the expression either. Maybe it's regional.

I have read it in old-timey books, but maybe I noticed and remembered because I have a big nose.

Miss Annie, that's where I know the phrase from - that and old movies, usually used to refer to a plucky girl reporter pursuing the big story.

Running the table so far. Have to think a bit about the sizes, not the order, in the final question. Put in a spolier to save sapce.

Spoiler

Says Jolley is a tough name to live up to but he is a jolly guy.

$100- When taking the Hippocratic oath, doctors swear to do which of the following?
A. Compose music B. Prevent disease
C. Construct buildings D. Write chicken scratch

In no version that I can find is "B" present.

$200- A common variety of which of these objects operates on the scientific principle of incandescence?
A. Light bulb B. Drinking straw
C. Ballpoint pen D. Rubber band

$300- "Nosy parker" is an old-fashioned way of referring to what type of person?
A. Slob B. Busybody
C. Klutz D. Womanizer

I guess it is old-fashioned, partly because I knew it immediately

$500- Featuring a giant pyramid, the Luxor Las Vegas reflects the imagery and architecture of what ancient civilization?
A. Greece B. Rome
C. Egypt D. Babylon

$1000- "You make us cry without hurting us" is a line from a Pablo Neruda poem titled "Ode to the" what?
A. Beet B. Carrot
C. Onion D. Potato

John mentions that he hadn't heard of the poem but thinks he can figure it out.

There also are odes to the chestnut, to the watermelon, to salt, to wine, and to ironing. (Not irony....). Perhaps others, if I read the original

Another way of asking for the meaning of "sobriquet". The audience does well, but is not available for the next question.

4K: I'm amazed that I knew 70s show is set in Wisconsin, but I do. Maybe it isn't, but everyone thinks it is 'cause of the song. Or something.

16K: Now we get real hard. Brazil, in my mind's eye, is about the same size as US or smaller. China's bigger but maybe not enough. 50/50

Well, I thought the question about the size of the countries was extremely easy but then most Canadians know that we're 2nd in size in the world to Russia. We are not twice the size of the U.S. so the only answer could be Russia. I also think the PAF heard it wrong and went for the country that was half the size of the U.S. OR he's a total imbecile.

I've heard the term Nosy Parker many times in my childhood but not lately.
