Tracy Zothner, from Apex, NC, enters the Hot Seat on Tuesday.
http://www.theapexherald.com/pages/full ... lead&open=&
Zothner and her husband, Eric, were once the owners of the Apex Brewing Company, which stocked the shelves of local bars and markets for almost a year. Problems with the distributor caused the business to close, but Tracy said that with enough “Millionaire” money, they could re-open it.
Times are tough for a lot of people and at the time that Zothner taped her show, she had been out of a job for almost a year. She came to the “Millionaire” hot seat, hoping to alleviate some of the financial stress, pay some bills and fund her kid’s college education.
The "suffering from the bad economy" hook.
When the cost of traveling for a “Millionaire” audition became too expensive, Zothner and her family held a car wash to raise money for the trip. They raised $50 – not as much as they’d hoped – but enough to help out a little!
Fund raising for audition expenses? That's a new one.

Here's another article about Tracy's upcoming appearance.
http://www.newsobserver.com/105/story/1499920.html
She says she took the test twice but didn't make it through to the contestant pool until after a Charlotte tryout. "I told them, 'Look, I've tried out twice. My son gets excited and then I get a 'no' postcard. I'd like to get a 'yes' postcard.'"
Uhhhh,
twice? And did talking about your son's disappointment really make a difference?
This article also mentions her car wash fundraiser, but implies it was for her travel expenses to her taping, not to her audition.

Sounds to me like she expects to win at least $250K. I wish her luck.

She might be hoping to win big, but what she said was:
"My goal was $25,000, but I wanted to have fun, no matter what."

Nuts to that! I want fun AND a million bucks. As the commercial says, "You - You can have it all."
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.
