I'll really show my ignorance now and say that I didn't even know there was a Marlo Thomas version. I think I'd prefer the Jimmy Stewart one though.

Speaking of Marlo Thomas, I saw an ad online for St. Jude where she was pictured with some children. If that picture is current and untouched, she must have really had some work done.
Marlo Thomas..... who knew?

And something I've always wondered...... when exactly did A Christmas Story become a holiday classic anyway? I know it's almost 30 years old, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't even aware of the movie's existence until about 7 or 8 years ago, and now it's unavoidable this time of the year....

A 1977 TV movie, under the title It Happened One Christmas. When I saw it, I'd never seen It's a Wonderful Life, so now I can't help comparing the original to the remake (rather than vice versa). --Bob

It became a classic when, well, they started playing it on TBS or TNT or something in a marathon whenever it was that they did. Which enabled us, who are totally enamored of it, to watch it and finally get the cd and keep the love going!

It's a FRAGILE sort of love affair. A major award. A triple double dog dare of etc.

Plus, for some of us older sorts, it resonated.

Neither one of you is missing anything (so no need to rush out and procure a VCR, lb!). It's a Wonderful Life is perhaps the most overrated movie of all time (with the possible exception of Princess Bride).

It was never any big whoop and I don't even think it was that popular back in the day. Not until it supposedly fell into public domain and then every two bit cable station around (most notably WTBS) played it incessantly back in the 80s whenever they had an empty slot to fill. I'd get sick of even my favourite movies if they were on that much.

Eventually the copyright was renewed (or enforced, I think there might have been a court case), but the damage had already been done......

It was also one of the first movies I remember being colourized (along with Yankee Doodle Dandy and Topper), probably for the same reasons. Hey, whatever happened to ol' Ted's grandiose colourization plans? Wasn't that supposed to be the next big thing? I still have a copy of the colourized Yankee Doodle Dandy around here somewhere....

Now if you've never seen White Christmas, THEN you're missing out on something special!

I didn't know about this so I looked it up on Wikipedia. The film itself fell into the public domain because someone forgot to renew the copyright (renewal used to be required to maintain copyrights in force). However, the story on which it's based remains protected by copyright, so unauthorized broadcasts remain an infringement of the story. --Bob

I never did get the BB gun I asked for, one Christmas. :(

Yeah, it resonates.

Woo hoo!

Can I use those wings to fly to the Hot Seat, now?
Our bank Christmas party is this Saturday. Our Chairman of the Board will be celebrating his 40th year at the bank as well as his 80th birthday. Our party always includes a "skit". We are doing a skit based on the movie Its A Wonderful Life.

I am Clarence, including the wings.

I just have to say that I am in awe.Of course I love this movie and know it by heart, but you have made my afternoon. This parody is a work of art.

Thank you for bringing this thread forward, Frank. This is one of my all-time favorites.

Awwww. ES likes to lick the envelopes himself. I conveniently didn't tell Sprots that before I sent her birthday card....

You only get a residual if it's rebroadcast. Mr. Capra's a pretty smart man.....

Hello again, my friends. Technical difficulties prevented me from replaying this during the holiday season.

I think, given recent circumstances, this year's viewing is even more special.

Good luck to all in 2013.
